Where are the 2009 Pilots? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I drive an average of 60 miles a day and have yet to see to see a 2009 Pilot on the road or parked.

Funny you should mention that cuz I was just thinking the same thing. I have seen many at dealer lots but have only seen one numbus gray one on Houston St and 6th Ave yesterday in NYC.

:8:
N_Jay
Have seen about 3 on the road.

Yeah I'm kind of enjoying the fact that I haven't seen a single '09 Pilot (except for mine) on the road. At least for a while, I'll have something unique.. unlike the TLs, 3-series, and Priuses I see every few miles.

:)

i saw my first 09 at one of the faculty parking lots at sac state. i've yet to see one driving on the road...

Funny, when I got my Land Rover it was one of the first of that model on the road.

Now I think its one of the last.....

The only 2009 Pilot I have seen on the road in North Dakota is my Dark Cherry Pearl Touring. Some dealers in the state have a few but I don't think many are being bought.

Finally saw one (aside from dealer lots) on the highway last weekend....I was on 95 N with my bike rack and bikes on back and, coincidentally enough, spotted an '09 Dark Cherry Pearl with bike rack & bikes heading 95 S.

Other than on the Honda lot, I haven't seen one on the road yet. But remember, it's only been about 2 months!! I bought my 2003 about 10 months after they went on sale, and I doubt I saw more than 10 on the road before I bought mine. At that time, most local dealers were only getting 6-10 per month, depending on the size of the dealer. Most were sold before they arrived. I waited 3 weeks for mine and I that was a short wait.

I know the market for SUVs is nothing like it was in 2003, but I don't believe the SUV is dead. I've really become accustomed to my Pilot. I love driving it, I love the room and it's the best vehicle around for long, over-the-road trips. Sure, I might buy a small car for my next "second car" but I don't know if I could ever again live without a substantial vehicle like the Pilot. I think truck based SUVs are dead because few people who have them really need them. But people who are dumping their SUV for a little $#!tbox will come to regret it and come back to a crossover eventually.

Ordered an '09 Touring (Sterling Grey) on June 30th and expect delivery in three weeks. We have been keeping our eyes open but haven't seen an 09 on the road in Southern Ontario.

Other than the car carrier full of '09 Pilots that I drove past in May days before they went on sale and the ones on dealer lots, I've only seen one other '09 Pilot - It was my Pilot's doppleganger on I-95S near Mansfield, Ma two days after I picked mine up in late June.

I would have expected to run across a few more by now, considering that quite a few of the '09 owners who have posted here are from Massachusetts.

It's just the math of the matter.

Even if Honda sold 20K a month (which I doubt they have - they're cutting production as we speak), 40K vehicles spread across 250 million vehicles in the US is one in every 6,250. Do you see 6,250 vehicles in your drive everyday?

Talked to a Honda sales guy while getting my accord serviced and he told me Honda designers really screwed up the '09 Pilot design big time. He says he has gotten a lot of negative comments about the new pilot design. Never thought I would say this but the Toyota Highlander looks a lot better than the new pilot.

Not to me - to each his own I guess. I considered the Highlander, but couldn't stand its look. the new Pilot tickles my pickle.

According to Cars.com there are over 400 new Pilots sitting on dealer lots within 30 miles of my house!
bigdadi
I saw one in past 2 months
richard112360
I've seen only ONE in the past 2 months here in the N burbs of Atlanta but have seen many parked at various dealers.
tangotango99
I have only seen one so far, from the back it look a lot like the Pathfinder

Gotcha beat 985 within 30 miles.

Something tells me that Honda's going to be doing a lot of price "support" on anything with a V6 early next year.

The first time I saw another was in my neighbor's garage! He got a black one about 3 weeks after me. Other than that I have seen about three around our city.
Hmmm1369
I've seen tons of pre-'09s but only one '09 in the last month or so.

Just received the news that my '09 Touring in Sterling Grey has been delayed one month. "Production problem'

Don't know if this is just the Touring model. Is anyone aware of a production issue for the '09 Pilots?

Wow. According to trader.ca, Ontario's main car sale site, there are exactly... ONE 09 Pilot in Ontario. I find it hard to beleive, though, as one fairly large dealership has two (that's two ever, as in they haven't sold a single one yet apparently). On the road I've seen 3 here since they came out.

I saw a Starlight Silver '09 on the road yesterday. It looked much bigger and boxier, but the thing that struck me the most was that the unevenness of the SS paint was much, much WORSE than previous years. It was noticeably splotchy.

This morning, I saw my first other 2009 Pilot since late June. It was around 9AM on MA-146 South near Millbury, MA - Black, I believe.

I just saw my first '09 this past weekend (excluding mine and those in dealerships). I was so excited that I waived to the driver. She waived back! :2:

I just saw my first two '09 Pilots on the road last week. I thought it was odd that I went all summer without even seeing one on the road, then I saw two in the same day!

However, that is one of the things I like about the Pilot. In my area, Highlanders are all over the place, but you don't see as many Pilots. It's nice not seeing yourself coming and going all of the time (especially since the Pilot replaced my silver Taurus!).

My next door neighbor just bought a black 2009 Pilot. I would have to say that the black Pilot doesn't look too bad. I saw a couple of silver Pilot's on the dealer lot and that color made them look too boxy.

It may take a little time for the looks to grow on me. In the meantime, we are very happy with our 2006 Pilot.

For better or worse, Honda was going for "boxy" on purpose. Their research suggests there is a big contingent of people who like boxy and are unhappy with the more curvy direction of the designs of the last few years. Some people still want to make a statement that this is an SUV and not an alternative mini-van. From talking with people I know, some people really do feel that way, though I am not one of them and I would say those that I've encoutered are in the minority. But it's probably regional too.

People are either tapped out of money or waiting for zero percent financing.

0% financing is a scam. It's just another way for the dealer to obfuscate what you're paying for the vehicle.

Are you a doctor? From wikipedia.org: Obfuscation is the concealment of meaning in communication, making it confusing and harder to interpret. Obfuscation may be used for many purposes. Doctors have been accused of using jargon to conceal unpleasant facts from a patient.

Anyway... If you focus on and agree to a price before worrying about financing then you can avoid the scam.

Mine is roming the streets of the hudson valley, ny..idk put in the town where i work i was gassing up, and i saw 2 other pilots, a black one and maroon one. The black one has tinted windows and running boards. I want running boards!
deparson
The cost of financing and the price of a car are two different and easily understood elements of a purchase.

I am not sure how is obfuscates the price for the car.

There are some people who wonder into a dealership and start talking monthly payments with the salesmen. They love that because it allows them to slide all kinds of fees etc into the price. With lower interest rates if you take the monthly payment approach to negotiating then yes they will jack up the price. Solution: research first then negotiate price.

OK, first off, I'm a car nut. And I've got Pilots (and RAV4s and Highlanders) on the mind just about every minute of the day, since I'm shopping for a new SUV.

I am on the road in/near Toronto about 4 days a week, and I spot EVERY Pilot from about 200 m away. I can say that I have seen exactly THREE 09's on the road here. Yes, that's 3 2009 Pilots I've seen near Toronto, period.

The all new Toyota Highlander came out about the same time as the Pilot but so far I have only seen 1 Pilot on road (actually on a parking lot) but have seen quite of few Highlanders. Not that I'm complaining because I'm one of those who enjoys "minority" cars. My guess is that even though the new Pilot is considered a mid-size SUV, it feels quite large especially the width. At 78.5" it is as wide as a Suburban! Also, I personally love the exterior design because it actually looks like an SUV as it should but I think your mainstream buyers are kind of turned off by it. I think the large majority prefers more roundabout "urban" look. Finally, I'm only getting about 15mpg driving in the city which is not that attractive in today's high-gas price world.

The Highlander came out a year and half before the Pilot also keep in mind the Pilot came out the same time as the fuel price was on it's way up.Highlander will have 4cyl. models in 2010

There is no doubt the high price of fuel is hurting sales of the new Pilot. I have only seen one other Pilot on the road and that person lives not far from me so I see it frequently. As time goes on you will see more.

Our new 2009 Pilot Touring in formal black is now marauding the streets in southeastern MA.

..but sadly i've been seeing more and more 2009's on the road.. I would have preferred to have this be a bit more exclusive for a while.

Some side-notes:
We got a heck of a sweet deal, and although this is not a primary vehicle for us (we've got lil econoboxes for that), this thing is very impressive for us in the early goings for mileage.

Our first tank of gas (after the dealer supplied one) yielded us 22.8 mpg in combined driving... and over 25 on the highway (as is shown in the attached pic)

Granted i'm driving it fairly conservatively, but still these are really good #'s. How come so many of you are seeing bad MPG #'s?

I haven't seen any new Pilots in SF Bay Area during the last week when (after suddenly buying mine) I started to look... I drive about 90+ miles a day East Bay - SF. I get a lot of looks from others.
I agree on the SUV look for Pilot 2009. SUVs which are modern-curvy-oblong have a little wimpy feel for me.
Kevin -
You made my day! I will see my mileage tonight with high hopes.
