I just bought a 2006 Pilot LX 2WD in April of 2008. Within the past couple of months I have noticed a very loud hum or resonating pitch around 55 mph especially when the vehicle is loaded down with people or extra weight. I have recently read some of the forum discussion but have found no fix for the problem.
When I installed a trailer hitch onto the rear bumper, the vibration got better. It seems to me that the rear iron bumper is acting like a huge resonator for the vibration.
Does anyone out there know of a fix for this problem? |

Could this be your issue (see attached TSB)?
If not, check your tires. The OEM Integrities are crap. Maybe you just need some new tires?
Good luck,

Holy cow! I have been corresponding with a couple of 08 Pilot owners over at Edmunds where we all have this noise problem. I'm trying this TSB tonight.
Thank you for posting. THis has been the only intermittent problem on our new and otherwise stellar Pilot experience. |

Thanks for sending this link. This is definitely the problem with this vehicle. I confirmed the diagnosis mode yesterday. My dealership is ordering the part.
I was told that there is a microphone located in the rear next to the subwoofer. This microphone is supposed to pick up a certain frequency while in economy mode and "cancel out" the frequency with white noise. Basically, Honda has taken a problem and just made it worse by trying to "cover it up." My dealer told me that the microphones are not programmed/tuned properly.
The TSB calls for all 2WD 2006 and some 2007 models. If you have this problem out of warranty, you can request that it be covered as a goodwill item.
My next question is: What will happen if I replace my factor radio with an aftermarket DVD/CD receiver like I wanted to do? How will it affect the ANC unit?
Thanks again for this link. It really worked! |
