Cover over spare tire under car? - Click HERE for Original Thread
powdbyrice
this is going to sound like a crazy question, but here it goes.

my wife had the rear bumper of her 07 pilot replaced because someone backed into her.

i SWEAR that when i looked under the pilot prior to the accident, i did not see a spare tire. she said she has run flats (this was prior to us getting married, so i didnt really care), so i didn't see anything wrong with not having a spare.

tonite, the pilot was making some strange noises like something was rolling around in one of the door pockets or something. so, i checked it when i got home and i looked under the car. to my amazement, there was a spare tire.

so, my question is, is there a cover over the spare tire under the pilot (that wasn't replaced when they fixed the bumper) or am i going crazy? i just turned 30, so that might be it... j/k.

thanks!

There is no spare tire cover.

humanoid is right. there is no spare tire cover, but don't blame it on your age. sometimes i look under my pilot and miss the spare also, seeing as it is a tiny, poor excuse for a donut spare. i need to get myself a full size...
Roger
No cover and it's a dougnut spare. I got a full size one from someone here after they upgraded tires and wheels. I highly recommend it.

I just don't see why Honda decided to save a few bucks in this area, with an almost fullsize SUV you should have a proper spare!!

The donut spare is not visible. A full spare is partially visible.

Is that what she is going to say when she shreds a perfectly good tire with a small leak because she drove 15 miles home so you could change it?

she said the dealer told her she had run flats. i dont trust anything the dealer says, but that's just me.

thanks for the answers!

Odd. An 07 would not likely have enough mileage to have had the tires replaced (I know, somebody has.) Since Pilots don't come with Run Flats even as an option, either (A) Somebody has replace the tires already ofr (B) The dealer is ignorant, lying, and blowing smoke when they don't know what they are talking about.

Should we start a poll on what folks here suspect?

what brand is on the sidewall? maybe we can get some pics of the tires up here so we can find out if they really are run-flats.

Well, the Goodyear Integrities are technically "Run-Flats" as proven by my wife. One tire on my Pilot went totally "flat" while she was driving it, but it still "ran" for the 2 miles or so before she pulled over and parked. :p

Of course, the smoothness, ride, stability and handling weren't nearly as good as when the tire was properly inflated. :2:

If she road it at speed for 2 miles, I would trash the tire because the carcase has probably been cooked.

She wasn't going that fast (stop and go traffic), but I pretty much knew that the tire would be toast and that I had to replace it before I even saw it. When I swapped cars with her so that she could get to work and so I could put on the donut spare, my assupmtions were verified. I was actually a lot more worried about wheel damage, but luckily it was fine.

Sportymonk, I wasn't in the vehicle at the time and I also don't plan on asking my wife to recount the details of that incident; bringing back memories of her worries and inconvenience from it might get her in a not so good mood. :yodaddy: :2:

My wife calls me up and tells me that there's a light on in the dashboard. It's yellow.

"Describe it"
"It's got an exclamation point on it"
"Uhh, ok"

So, I throw the OBD-II cable into my backpack.

15 minutes later, she calls again.

"Car's wobbling, I'm pulling over at the rest stop"
"Ah, by any chance, did the light look like a tire?"
"Yeah, you could say that"

So, I throw the breaker bar and 19mm socket into the trunk of my car. Rest stop is on my way to work.

The tire was nearly deflated when she pulled into the rest stop, it was totally deflated by the time I got there. I found where the nail was real quick. It must have gotten thrown off the tire once she hit highway speed. Tire was perfectly salvageable.
