Help with 2005 EX-L Purchase. - Click HERE for Original Thread
Superbowl7
Hello all,

I am a n00b on this board and didn't see a more appropriate thread so I created a new one. I am ready to pull the trigger on an 05 EX-L for $14 k. It has 50k miles. I am purchasing it over a Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey. We have a newborn and a 3 year old. Maybe next year we'll regret purchasing and get a mini van :)

Anyway, my question is what items should I look to "upgrade" or take a look at in terms of safety and convenience for the family? I noticed a lot of talk on the boards regarding tires. The Pilot has brand new tires, but they are the Integrity. New brakes were also installed. I also saw a post about a Rear SubFrame Brace RetroFit kit (if the Pilot vibrates?). I am not aware of all the accessories available, possibly a runningboard will help the kids?

Any help for a concerned dad in Ohio would be appreciated.

Regards,
rocky
The only time I regret the Pilot over a van is on those rare occasions when I have lots of family, dogs and luggage. Which is rare.

A three year old will find it easier to climb in and out of the van, and you'll find it easier to fix the seat belts and strap in any newborns.

If the tires are brand new, drive prudently and the GYs will be fine. Thats what I did for the first 48k. Just remember its no race car around corners and in wet/snow. The Braces are something 99% of people don't know about or care about.

Do what works for you. If its potentially a one year purchase, then invest nothing beyond the purchase price

Thanks rocky. Since I am in Ohio I am a bit worried with the tires. After all, I am purchasing a Pilot because it is an all wheel drive. I am used to driving a truck , I sold my beloved 04 Chevy Colorado 4x4 for this. I guess my only other question is did you ever have to manually engage the 4x4 mode (the button just right of the steering wheel)? From what I've read the vehicle only drives in true all wheel drive when it senses it needs to.

The best part of driving the car is not havng to guess what to do in bad wheather. I have never had to use the button on the dash ad hope never to for that matter. The all wheel does its own thing and I have never second guessed it. I have to say though, the GY's in the mountians of PA sucked and I got rid of them after the first winter. Went with the Triple Treads and am very satisfied with this setup.
