| Just purchased a month ago and was looking for actual mpg city on internet for 09 Pilot when saw and signed up to this forum. Got 19.2 mpg city twice, no highway. Key was to be really slow off the line and to coast to stops if possible. I drove like I had a raw egg under foot and watched the mpg meter like a hawk. Traded my 07 pilot EX in. Some of 19.2 is due to the new 6-4-3 engine and the rest is to back off of the throttle I believe. I live in a mostly flat road driving town of 180,000 and can traverse it in usually 15 minutes. Now it takes about 20 mins cause I miss some lightes when accelerating slowly. The 07 typically got 14.5 to 15 mpg city so you know how I use to drive. I will save at least 15% on the gas bill if I keep up the sensible driving technique. There is a real urge to keep ahead of the traffic though! Bad habits die hard. Wife is getting about 17-18 mpg. I make it a game to see if I can out do her. WE LOVE THIS CAR! WE LOVE THE LOOK! Great handling, lower road noise, more interior room and a lot of electronic gismos. Gotta start saving now for the next generation which will be 2014 I am told. lengds |

| Good job. Bet you'll see more mpg as the engine gets some miles under its valves! |

Some argue that a quick acceleration rate (within reason) is not bad for MPG (and may even be better than slow).
Missing a light (idling) is like pouring gas on the ground. |

| 17.5 mpg on my first tank of gas. Not too bad considering the size and bricklike aerodynamics :) |

Our area is one stop and go after another. It's hard for any vehicle to get decent mileage around here, but we typically get about 17 and change in the Pilot.
Even my 2004 CR-V barely gets 20 in town on many days, especially with the A/C going. |

| What grade gasoline are you using? Does it have ethanol added? We can find only gasoline with 10% ethanol here. |

First full tank: 18.017 mpg manually computed vs. 18.5 via the trip meter. Average speed on the meter 33 mph, which is about right with 80% city and 20% highway for break in voyage. 87 octane w/10% ethanol.
Make sure you zero out the trip meter AVG MPG setting with each fill up for an accurate reading. I zeroed both "A" and "B" meters with the first top off for a full tank after driving off the lot. Delivery mileage showed 46.1 miles but I put in 5.1 gallons to ensure a full tank before beginning my calculations. (Before I zeroed it out on fill-up the meters showed 11.4MPG)
Not bad!!! Can't wait to see if it improves after break-in. I do not drive it agressively but I don't dirive with an egg underfoot either! |
