Hi All,
What are the proper torque specs for the lug nuts of the wheels on the pilot?
I am doing a rotation and wanted to know how many pounds to adjust my torque wrench to. |

| I'm guessing you have a 1st gen Pilot. The owner's manual says 80 lbf-ft (ft-lbs) for the '03-'08 models. The '09s are different and call for 94 lbf-ft. |

When I was getting a new tire installed at Discount Tire earlier this week I asked that very question to the technician doing the work.
He said they torqued mine to 80 fl-lbs. I'm not sure how they determined that but I was happy to see them firm up the lugs with the gun and then finalize the proper torque setting by hand with a torque wrench. |

Wonder why the 09's have a higher torque? What changed or did Honda simply feel it is safer?
I thought there were only two torque settings:
(1) As tight as I can get them where I can get them off again (yes honey that's's tight enough) and,
(2) Tire dealer tight which is so tight an 800 lb gorilla jumping on the lug wrench can't bust them loose. (Usually discovered on a dark and rainy night!) :p

Yep, 80ft lbs. I'm always pleased when the tire shop uses a real torque wrench to finish them off.
The lugs are 19MM.
At home I use an 80 lb torque stick on an impact gun. I've found it to be pretty darn accurate. |

If you don't have one already, also buy a short extension for the socket (maybe 4" or so). That will give you a little bit of clearance for your hands between the tire and the torque wrench. |
