Hi,
I just test drove Pilot touring today and from my brief observation, looks like the Navigation is 2D. Does anybody know if it can be switched to 3D view?
Thanks

| It has 3D views of freeway exits when navigating to a location, which pop-up once you get close to the exit. Other than that, no 3D. |

The dealer cannot help you with unverified roads. They are roads that are unverified in the database. A lot of rural roads ar unverified. There is no info on them beside location (which may or may not be correct) in the database. That means that speed limits are not known, so travel times are calculated using 25mph for these roads. For routing, you can turn the use of unverified roads on and off. All this is covered in the navi manual. |

In terms of factory navigation systems, Honda/Acura have one of the best in the industry. With a little research you'll find that many other manufacturers (Toyota, GM/Cadillac, Land Rover) put restrictions on their systems that prevent a lot of use while you are driving.
Many do not allow you to make any changes to the destination while you are moving--that means even the passenger cannot look up the gas stations along the route while you are driving.
The Honda Nav has no such restrictions and on our road trip last year we found it so convenient to put in our final destination 500 miles away in the morning, and simply look for gas stations and fast food restaurants along the way. I couldn't take it if I had to pull over to the side of the road just to figure out where the next McDonald's was!
One more thing about navigation systems in general: More times than not, local knowledge is far superior than a nav system so don't expect your GPS to know the best shortcut to get to your grandma's house. However, if you don't know the area at all, the Nav system will get you there. I drove all across the US last summer and the Honda Nav never got us lost at all (in spite of my own attempts to get us lost ;) ). |
