Controversial topic. I will be picking up an 09' Pilot next week but haven't discussed the extended warranty.
Should I be considering this as an option for the 1st batch of 2nd Generation Pilots? The Touring edition contains several integrated electronic devices which worry me. |

Unless the policy has changed recently, you have until 36k miles to make your decision.
So you may want to wait and see how the reliability of Gen 2 plays out before spending the $$$... |

Knee-jerk reponse: no, it's a Honda.
Upon further reflection, however, I do understand your concerns about electronics, but extended warranties are always priced to make money for the seller so if it's peace of mind you're looking for you will still have better odds betting against the house in Vegas, and even better odds in Monte Carlo. |

A lot of opinions on this one.
For me, I wished we had bought the extended warrenty on my daughter's 2000 Civic we bought used for her college car. The A/C failed and the compressor had to be replaced. Nuff said. Would have easily recovered the money.
On my son's Neon, we had a low pressure switch on the A/C go bad and they had to replace and add freon. $150 I think. So we haven't cleared the $1000 Ext Warranty for it.
On the wife's 05 Civic (bought used in 07) and on my 05 Pilot (new in 05) we haven't had any significant repairs. Her Civic was a certified car from the Honda dealer.
So in my family, we have had mixed results. For me, it is worth it as it seems that although not a lot goes bad, when it does, it is an expensive deal. A lot depends on how long you will keep it. Remember that the extended warranty goes "on top of" the regular warranty. In other words, a 4 year 100,000 thousand mile extension only gives you 4 years and 100k, it doesn't add to the original warranty. |

At lot depends on how much you pay for the contract.
Make sure you do your home work and find the lowest on-line price. Also, IMO, don't consider anything but a HondaCare plan.
I have been looking for pricing on AcuraCare plans and https://www.myhondawarranty.com seems to have the best prices. I have not done business with them so I can't vouch for them. |

One thing to remember is that you do NOT have to buy it from where you purchased your vehicle from! ANY Honda warranty works at ANY Honda Dealership. One of the site sponsors is Tim from http://hondaacuraworld.com/ has good prices too. You can PM him if you would like. |

Tim from http://hondaacuraworld.com/ will able to match them on pricing. I own a Pilot Touring with RES and worry about the electronics, so I will be buying the 8/120k from Tim soon (after he reply my email) |

Brand new noob here -- I just got my 2009 Touring with nav and res. Great suv...
I used to skoff at extended warranties -- but no more. I traded my 2005 Subaru Legacy GT Ltd for the Honda. Despite Subaru's rep for reliable cars I had several significant problems -- one was 3K expensive (piston ring land failure.)
I was none too pleased to still have a payment and a stiff repair bill. From that point on I decided that an extended warranty in place -- atleast until the loan is paid off is cheap insurance.

Piston rings would be covered without any extra policy for 70k miles now.

I stopped buying Subaru's after my local dealer told me I didn't know how to use a clutch. Of course it didn't help that my VW Diesel Rabbit, also serviced by the SAME dealer, had 80,000 miles on the original clutch! I had to replace the clutch 3 times in 30,000 miles at the dealer!!! I took it to an independant guy and he said it was something causing the clutch to go bad, I forget what right now, repaired it and I never had another problem. BUT Subaru's are not on my list of purchaseable cars, at the very least until I move. Did I mention I used to drive FireTrucks, they all used to have clutches! |

I always thought that the Subarus were up there in the reliability ratings -- and I think the older ones are -- but the newer ones seem a bit fragile. I had to replace the transmission case due to a throwout bearing failure. I got the same initial reaction from the dealer -- its your fault. Pissed me off.
Hopefully Honda will do better by me! |

If I am the standard, you WILL be impressed by Honda! Subaru and Honda are not even in the same Country when it comes to comparing Dealers Service! I will buy Hondas, and take them back to where I bought mine, for a very long time! I love the Service Reps, they have saved me money when they did not have to, they have foudn thigns I didn't even thin kabout and have been overly nice when they did not have to be! The Subaru Service guy accused ME of causing the problems with my Subaru! I did not feel bad at all when I sold them my cut in half and rewelded VW for a very hefty profit! Everyone said I should have told them it was "clipped", I said they are smart enough to know what to look for. Apparently they weren't and offerred me waaaay over Blue Book, I took it and walked. Unfortuantely I walked all the way to the Dodge Dealer and bought a minivan, 7 years and 3 minivans later I bought a Honda Ody! I have not looked back and will continue to buy Hondas! I have since sold the Ody back to Honda and bought an '04 Pilot and an '04 Accord. |
