I'm new here and new to the Pilot, but we just got a smoking good deal on an 06 EXL with just shy of 40k on the ticker. Only thing it doesn't have is 4wd.
I'm pretty good with a wrench and am wondering if all that is needed is a rear differential, the rear end parts, and a drive shaft, or would the transmission need to be swapped out/rebuilt with 4wd parts?
What about the computer program? is it different between the 4wd and the 2wd, or is it strictly a mechanical difference? |

| i'm no mechanic, but i do know that the pilot's 4WD system is quite complex. you might need more than just a rear diff and driveshaft. it may go as far as needing a different engine  |

You will need a new trans, drive line, rear end, several new computers with a ton of wiring, new dash console, VTM-4 locking switch, and a bunch of other stuff I am sure.
Sell the 2WD and buy a 4WD...prices are only going down so you can find a good one cheap these days. |

crap. that's what I thought the answer was going to be, but was hoping otherwise.
I'm used to Jeeps and older trucks. Hoped it was as easy as putting the adapter for the transfer case in and adding the drivetrain from there back. |

| Nope. Honda's aren't Jeeps. Any conversion from 2-4wd almost always is cost prohibitive. This is the possible reason why you got such a good deal on your Pilot. Unless you need it, just enjoy the 2wd and save some money for the short term. |

| the system is completely electronically controlled. even if you did add all the mechanical hardware it wouldnt work without the sensors and computers. |
