| Have an '05 Pilot with 40k. Dealer is doing the rear brakes. Found the emergency brake to be rusted and parts disintegrated when taking them apart...another $300 added to the job. Seems to me it should be covered under my honda care extended warranty. Any thoughts? |

| Probably not. I think rust is considered wear and tear... |

The corrosion warranty from Honda is five years, but usually only covers if the corrosion started from the inside out.
If your vehicle fall within this timeframe, it wouldn't hurt to contact Honda Customer Care to get clarification.
BTW, it is technically called the parking brake, not emergency brake. You should really use it all the time to keep it functioning properly. |

Hi, just curious, what prompted you to ask the dealer to check the emergency brake, my 05 Pilot is still around the same mileage with yours, but not 3 years old yet. I always noticed noise when I engaged the parking brake and stepped out of the car (actually when the parking brake engaged, pushing the car back and forth will most likely produce some noise). I complained this to the dealer during my last service (before the 3 years/60k km warranty expired), but they did not find anything, I suspect they did not take the brake apart...
My car had accident back in May, and the car has gone thorough inspection, including the brakes. Maybe this is a dumb question, but will the parking brakes use parts differently from the regular brake? I am just worried, if not checked properly, next time when I park my car down hills or up hills, it might cause problems.
Thanks! |

Yes. The parking brake is a drum brake on the rear, separate from the rear disc brake. |
