Hey folks...
My issue is this: Windows down to hear it.
hit the accelerator slightly and hear a whistling/whining sound from under the hood.
If I push it down more (more gas) noise goes away. Also at higher speeds, no noise.
Seem to occur from a stopped position and up to about 25 MPH before it goes away.
When I presented this to the charming service techs @ Honda, they said my tires weren't wearing evenly creating the sound. I am not a service technician, a mechanic, etc. But am not a frickin idiot either. I said I know what sound the tires make....wonder if they even tested it out. Did the oil change and let it sit in the lot.
Any feedback? Besides a different dealer/service provider. |

I have no idea but you might want to post some more info about your car. Things like the model year, miles on the car, age of tires, age of belts, 2WD or 4WD ('06 and newer only), etc.
And why don't you want to try a different dealer? Is that the only one in your area? If it's not a warranty issue, you can also take it to an independent mechanic. Frequently you can get better quality service at a lower price from them.
Good luck!

| My 2006 EXL had a smiliar issue once upon a time. The sound behaved like you describe. It turned out to be a mid-heatshield on the passenger side that was vibrating against something. It was harmonic with the engine vibrations, so at higher speeds (or engine revs) it would quit. My dealer got under the car and found it. There was a TSB on it and they fixed it at no charge. I think they installed a different hangar or something that had an additional rubber bushing. So you might look at that to make sure that the sound is coming from the engine bay. I thought mine was coming from the engine bay too, and I didn't have to have the windows down to hear it, but it was very faint if I didn't have them down. |

This TSB titled Pinging, Rattling, or Squealing During Light Acceleration I think is the one you're talking about.
Good luck!

Thanks for everyone's reply. I have to say that I think your assessment was dead on 100% accurate. After reading the TSB I believe it is exactly the problem. I am actually slated to get new tires so that will be the perfect scenario.
After I get the new tires I will simply tell them that the noise is still there and "oh by the way" I found this TSB that explains my problem 100%
Thanks again |
