I want to modify my rear lights (2007) to have amber turn signals because the red ones are dangerous and ineffective. (hence the reason that all other countries require amber).
There are 2 lights at the back on each side, the top is lights and signal and the bottom is lights and brake. I propose removing the wire to the top lamp "lights" function so that the housing is "indicator" only. If you then remove the bulb and drill the relector portion of the inner assembly out so that the bulb would be exposed through the outer lens. Then replace the bulb with the amber equivilent.
The result would that the top housing has about a 1.25 hole in the inner housing that the amber bulb flashes through when indicating.
Not only would it be a custom job but it would improve the safety of the vehicle as well.
Any thoughts on the procedure? Has anybody done something similar? It's a lot cheaper than buying a new assembly and I think that the only other country that has the pilot is China. |

I guess a replacement of the lighting assembly is the only way to go.
There have been a number of threads on the subject.

Yes, I was the last poster on that thread stating that the "Euro" look was mis-leading. Europe does not allow red turn signals. BTW the middle of the thread ststes that the amber look was a quirk of the camera. |
