Humming from ANC on 08's - Click HERE for Original Thread
Bowzer
First, this is the problem also discussed on the thread here:
http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/sh...&threadid=21986

I confirmed this is the problem on my 08 and am about to go to the dealer so they can confirm same and order the replacement part. I listed this on an Edmund's board as well and was alarmed at a response that came in:
A fellow 08 owner had the replacement part put in (I believe it is a replacement ANC main component) and the problem has persisted. Honda responded that this is a known and ID'd problem without a fix yet and they're "working on a fix".

Before I have things disassembled and re-assembled on my new car and end up with the same problem, any input from others on this scenario or with similar condtions? My concerns:
- I don't want the vehicle messed with by techs if it won't solve the problem. But, I may have to go down this road to prove if the repair is a viable solution.
- I am not happy that this brand new car with brand new car payments from Honda would have no solution to a problem...especially a long time exisiting vehicle design. WHat are my potential rights on this? It's an annoyance that borders on the vehicle not providing a good enough driving environment. I'm not looking to blow it out of proportion but I'm also not good with sitting on an existing problem long term.

Input invivted and thanks.

Small Update:
I called up the best Honda Service group I know of in the area. They acknowledged this is a common issue coming through. I mentioned I had heard of some repairs not fixing the problem. He replied that the ANC units being replaced have an intermittent manufacturer's defect. If the replacement unit doesn't make things right, they replace again and usually have it fixed pretty quickly.

So...I'll make a go of the fix. Hopefully, I'll get her in this week to finally take some action on this thing.

I know how you feel. I bought my 2008 in june. The very first day I realized it makes sound from the rear when I go over the speed bumps. For less than 2 months, I had been in and out dealer 5 times to fix the same problem and it still is.

First time: they lubricated the joints, problem came back the next day

Second time: They said they didn't hear anything.

Third time: Insisted to do a test drive with them. Drove them to over the speed bumps and they said "oh, now I heard it". Caused: the dry metal to metal contact.
Correction: remove and lube top and bottom upper and lower armand links, lube break cable, and all bushing, retorque resr cardle. Test drive, noise gone. Problem comes back next day.

Fourth time: Found sway bar bushing and spring holders making noise.
Correction: replace bushing and holders as needed. Problem is still there.

Fifth time: didn’t heard a thing. Told me to bring it back if getting any worse.

Now I am bout to give up. The noise is just so annoying.

I’ve owned few Hondas before. Now this Pilot and 2000 Accord. My brother and their wives also have them and we all are happy with their reliable. Just not in luck this time.

I've heard about that rear end noise and have been fortunate not to have it. THe first week I caught it doing something like that for about 2 days and then it went away forever since. I'd be very suspicious of a bushing...or lack there of. Have you spoken directly to Honda about this issue?

I felt better after talking to the better shop here in town. Knowing they were on top of it helped I guess. Now I just have to make time to get by there.

This is my 5th Honda in 22 years...each one got more than 150k miles on them and I still stand by keeping at least one Honda-mobile in the driveway. Driving experience and dependability are hard to beat as a combo to fit my needs.

Good luck with that noise!

I hate to sound obvious but have you checked to make sure that the jack is secure? I've heard that if it's put away and not expanded a bit to hold it steady it can make noise when going over bumps. You could also check for other stuff in the back that could rattle. Check in the underfloor storage for loose stuff too.

Good luck!
Larry.
