I was just reviewing some posts of people having issues with the "check engine light" & "VTM-4" indicator coming on. I have just experienced this with my '04 Pilot that has 96,000 miles. I took it to a mechanic yesterday, and $200+ later, I drove home, lights out. They had replaced the EGR valve, aired up a rear tire, and changed differential fluid. Only fault code indicated was for the EGR valve. They couldn't find a fault for the VTM-4 indication. Next morning, the lights came back on. Has anyone found the real solution to this before I end up spending a 1000 bucks for guess work?
Thanks for any help,

Just knowing that the CEL and VTM-4 light come on together (the second time) isn't enough to diagnose this. If it were me, I'd take it to a dealer.
There are some engine codes that cause the computer to shut off the VTM-4 system, even though there is no issue occurring with the VTM-4.
I had a toyota with traction control, same thing, if the CEL came on (for any reason), the traction control was shut off and the traction control "problem" light came on. |
