Converting from LX to EX-L ??? - Click HERE for Original Thread
07pilotlx
Hey guys, I have a 2007 Honda Pilot LX. I camme across an auction on Ebay for a Navigation Unit out of a 2007 Pilot EX-L. The guy was selling the in-dash screen, rear view camera, A/C controls and 6-disc CD changer in a bundle. My question is; What else would I need other then what is sold here? Do I need conectors? Has anyone done this before?

If the Pilot's (vehicle) structure is anything like the Toyota/Lexus than you'll need the correct:
Instrument Panel (IP) Wire Harness
fuse/relay box
maybe the HVAC module (due to different option levels)
IP ECU (which is probably multiplex) (here Toyota has multiple ecu's)
(I assume the power doors, windows and mirrors controls are same between LX/EX-L)
might need to replace the steering column if the EX-L has power tele/tilt
then,
you'll need remove the steering wheel and signal bezel, IP Pad (skin), center console, radio module, ducts and air filter, etc. Replace the wire harness, etc. basically build your IP back using the new parts. pay close attention to the IP pad clips when installing them to the cowl - make sure they engage (otherwise you'll get rattles).

After everything is back into the vehicle, you'll need to "teach" the new ECUs (if any were replaced). This is the tricky part since I haven't run across many dealerships that do it well.

there's more to it than what I wrote above, that's basically the gist of it. As I said, that would pertain more to Toyota and Lexus vehicles - I just purchased my 1st Honda a couple of weeks ago.

good luck if you decide to do it.

I doubt anyone has done this successfully. I asked more than one Honda dealership if they could add navigation to an EX when I was shopping for mine. Both of them said that it was so difficult and so expensive that they would not even accept the job. I could not buy it from them, period. I would never attempt it.

Anyway, if you were going to try, you would also need the CD or DVD player that goes under the passenger seat that runs the nav disk. I didn't see that listed in your parts.

Someone on the forum has done it and it wasn't cheap. There are probably better solutions at lower price. Such as integrated bluetooth and iPod connectivity.

if the nav system is the main component you're trying to add, i would recommend going for an aftermarket nav system. you would save a lot of money and you could do it yourself. several stereo brands make double din in-dash nav units that would fit perfectly where your stock LX stereo is. many of these units now offer features not found on the OEM nav system such as RDS, Bluetooth, and HDD.

+ 1 And you can get aftermarket leather and seat heaters from places like Classic Soft Trim and still be $$$ ahead over trying to install an OEM NAV unit.
