| my white Pilot EX-L with premium running boards installed myself. I haven't installed the rivnut but it's secure enough with the other 5 bolds put in. My next project is the EOM grill and rear metal cover. |

Nice looking. Whaich running boards are those -- premium?

Yes Premium without lights. I think it's the best looking one out of the four you can get for the pilot. If you're ordering online get it from Bernardiparts.com $450 + 20 shipping or do what I did...print it out and have you're dealership price match. I couldn't wait to put it on. I definitely recommend these for accessories....changes the look by a lot.
FYI ...since you're in MA...bernardi is in framingham...Be sure to call you're local hOnda stealership and verify they it in stock. herb chambers in burlington is where i got mine. Boch didn't have any in stock but was willing to honor the price match. If you don't have the riv nut tool install all bolts according to direction and take it back to the dealership and let them know you're running board is missing a bolt because you discovered it was loose. They will think you're pilot came with them.
Boch quoted me at $800 with install. do it yourself or if your around my area I can help you. |

Do you think that rivnut tool is available somewhere?
Is the metal finish on the premium running board shiny or a brushed (matte) finish? I'm thinking it may not match the chrome-looking side moldings on the Touring model. |

| Brushed not chrome. |

| Hey jake. Nice, kinda dark on the picture but I believe it looks impressive. just have a question on installation. Is it a bolted on installation without disassemble of the interior? because my mom is having a difficult time enter and exiting . I was thinking about installing one myself. I had viewed the diagram on the site you refered. any comments would be greatly appreciated. |

Just completed installation of premium running. Fairly simple install took about an hour doing it alone. Found another shortcut for the riv nut install. I will upload photos and description of what simple tools I used a little later.
Boards look great! |

Just order the 2nd row cover and floor mats and running board. I will need to get the rivet gun? what is the secret without using the rivet gun?

Poor man’s riv-nut tool:
o One 8mm socket head bolt 8mm-1.25x40
o 8mm nut with one side marked as an index point
o 8mm washer
o 6mm Metric hex (allen) wrench
• There are only 2 riv-nuts in the install at the rear brackets in an outboard frame hole (must have been an engineering oversite all others used are factory threaded).
BTW all OEM kit nuts and bolts for this install use a 13mm wrench and/or socket.
Thread the 8mm nut onto the socket head bolt, then the 8mm washer. Next thread on the RivNut so the bolt is fully thread onto it.
Snug the 8mm nut and washer against the Rivnut
Place the Rivnut into the frame hole, holding it firmly in place with the Hex wrench.
Take a 13mm wrench and while watching that index mark, tighten the 8mm nut 3 complete turns.
Then back off the index nut and unscrew the socket bolt.
Install bracket

A couple of other thoughts:
Premium Black Running Boards
• First Download installation instructions from a site like :
www.bernardiparts.com/Images/Instal...ds_AII39395.pdf OR
www.estore.honda.com/aii/aii002.asp...modelname=Pilot
o None came with my shipment
• Make sure your have the correct metric socket and wrench. 13mm works all nuts and bolts and the riv-nut device
• If you don’t have torque wrench ….borrow a friend’s… over tightening the T-head bolts in the plastic running board grooves can cause damage, Too loose and they'll vibrate out. The metal frame brackets are more forgiving but why risk stripping out a thread.
Spent about $1.75 at the hardware store, $0.92 for the 8mm-1.25x40 socket head bolt, and a 5 pack each for the 8mm nuts and washers as the didn't have singles. |

RSQ Pilot.....Thanks for a very informative and helpful post. Now I can not wait to order my Running Boards!
I do have a question. The Three (3) full rotations part of your instructions, will three (3) completely flair out the rivit?

Thanks for the feedback...
Three full turns held mine tight with no slippage.
For that info I must give a hat tip to :29:

I Googled and even checked e-bay for a tool. Tools are expensive ($70-80) none of the national autoparts stores in this market had ever heard of a Riv-nut let alone have a lender tool. Several on-line Honda dealers will "rent" you the tool but you end up paying shipping both ways plus rental fees. :(
There are only 2 riv-nuts so I used the suggestion from the above forum ... build you own. And what I used worked fine... :25:
One other method that could be tried is a self-tapping body bolt in that hole. I had some 8mm body bolts from another project but they were too small, I'm guessing you might need a 14mm since the Rivnut mfg spec hole for their 8MM insert is 13.5 mm. I didn't measure the actual hole in the pilot sheet metal |

| Thanks for posting the riv-nut tool information. I just ordered the running boards with lights and will be installing them shortly. |

| I totally agree that the Premium boards w/o lights look the best. I had my dealer install them as part of my purchase. He charged me full retail $619 but installed for free ($200 value). They really do improve the look of the vehicle. |

| I like the Premium Running Boards too but my wife likes the ones with the lights better. Since its her vehicle that is what we are going with. |

Thanks for the follow-up.
I had checked out some of the other brands of rivet nut tools and all that I found were SAE thread size not metric. The cheapest was at a Chicago Tools Outlet. Those would work if you bought the kit and it had comparable diameter SAE rivet nuts and bolts to fit the metric size holes in the frame.
They were all more than the $1.75 it cost me to improvise. For 2 rivnets required for the install the choice was simple. |

| I installed the Premium Running Boards with lights yesterday. Took about two hours. I made the riv nut tool like described in this thread. Worked well. I put 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive on the outside collar of the riv nut before installing to keep the moisture out of that area. Also acts as a glue to keep it from spinning if I ever need to remove the bolt. I also put wheel bearing grease on all the nut and bolt threads to keep moisture out. Running the wires for the lights went well. There was a little plastic nut that became stripped which secures the foot rest. Called dealer and they are going to get me another one. Other then that not too difficult. The running boards make it a lot easier to get in and out! We also bought a hitch cover which really fits nice and matches the bumper perfectly. |

That looks nice. Did you get it from Honda or someone else?
BTW. Is that really your garage(s) in the background? |

I bought them from hondaacuraworld.com through their web site.
Yes the garages are mine. I had my house built in 2000 with a 3 car attached garage. Then I saved up for a few years and had a 3 car detached built. The detached is actually a pole barn with siding and trim to match the attached garage. |
