| Hello. I just purchased a pair of aftermarket crossbars for my 2007 Pilot. The instructions that came with it said to remove the front cap from the rails, then slide the holders into the groove and line them up with a preset mark. Then I would lay the rails on and screw everything together. Sounds simple enough. But before I got started, I found a couple of other sites that said after removing the front cap, I must remove the front rail base from the roof by unscrewing 3 torx screws. I'm really not comfortable removing the rail base. Is this necessary? Or will I be able to slide the holders into the grooves by just removing the cap, and without removing the base? Thanks for your help. |

Hey marquis103, and everyone. I just joined this forum because I just purchased a 2006 Pilot EXL.
Marquis103 I was curious as to where you bought and how much the Crossbars you purchased were. I wanted to do the same for my ride. I don't see the need to pay dealer costs for stuff like this.
And somebody please answer his questions.
Thanks

| Hello. I'll answer my own question since I've installed the crossbars. Yes you do have to remove the rail base, but it's exceedingly simple. I made sure to use a mirror so I could locate the small Torx screw on the inside of the rail. The hardest part was getting the rail cover off, but I found if you add a little wiggle, the job becomes much easier. Just put a flat head screwdrive in the hole, and hold the metal clip down, and then rock the cover back and forth as you work it forward. I tried just pushing it forward and had no luck. But once I started rocking it, as I pushed forward, it worked right off. You will need a #15 and #30 torx screwdriver. I bought the crossbars from a power seller on Ebay Motors. It came to $100 including shipping. They fit perfectly. |
