Day Night Mirror Pinout voltages - Click HERE for Original Thread
bgwiles
I am installing an after market CIPA automatic day night mirror w/ temp using the Honda OEM accessory kit which includes the connection for the headliner. My CIPA mirror uses 1 & 7 for +12V and pin 2 for ground. The Honda plug uses 1 for +12V and 3? for Ground. There are three wires in the headliner connection, one a +12V, switched, one a ground and the other, I wish I knew. Does anyone know what the other wire is used for. I tested for constant 12V, and didn't get a reading.

Thanks from a newbee

hey bgwiles! welcome to the .org!

i have never tested wires in the area you are referring to, but the only logical thing i can think of without pulling out a multi-meter is that your third wire is for illumination. meter the wire then turn on the parking lights, see if that's it. hope that helps!

I'll test the other wire with lights to see if that is the option. I have also read that it may even be connected to the reverse circuit so that the the mirror does not dim while the vehicle is in reverse.

I was able to find the information concerning the wiring of Automatic Dimming Inside Mirror Harness. The following pin assignments are measurements from the plug that attaches to the mirror.
Pin 1 - YEL/GRN = (Fuse 7 - Driver's) 12+V (Ignition)
Pin 2 - BLK Ground
Pin 3 - GRN (Back-up lights circuit)

This Honda connection fits the CIPA / Magna Donnelly mirrors. I personally installed a CIPA 36501 in my Pilot VP, since it did not come with an outside temperature gauge. Since the 36501 mirror has map lights, I had to cut the #1 and #7 wires on the CIPA harness and cut the YEL/GRN #1 of the Honda harness and solder the modified CIPA wires to the Honda harness. I used heat shrink over the new solder connection and the job only took 10 minutes.

The CIPA 36501 mirror pinouts are as follows:
1 = 12V+ (Mirror)
2 = Ground
3 = Reverse or Back-up lights circuit
4 & 5= Temperature Sensor
6 = Not Used
7 = 12V+ (Map Lights)

The Auto Dimming Mirror install time was as follows:
1. Temperature Sensor wiring from behind front bumper (Had dealer install - charged 1 hour, took about 1/2 hour total)
2. Honda harness modification - 10 minutes (cut the 12v+ back 2 inches and connect both 1&7 from CIPA harness.
3. Mirror install - 20 minutes (using the Honda Accessory P/N: 08V03-SJC-102)

This is a great option for those that purchased the VP and want the outside air temperature.
