Goodbye UGLY Grille !!!! - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey Folks:

As a follow-up to some of the ideas on this thread:

http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/sh...&threadid=22024

I went ahead and bought a sheet of black aluminum universal grille mesh:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...em=360075676154

and have finally this weekend installed it!

It's an easy job....the grille comes out with 2x 10mm bolts, and several plastic trim snaps. You have to separate the chrome trim surround from the black plastic outer frame, saw cut out the stock grille, then snap the two pieces back together. Next, I overlayed the aluminum grill material on the back, then cut it to the general shape of the opening. Finally, JB welded it to the frame, and let set overnight. You can even re-use the chrome Honda logo! Here is a shot of the final product, and what's left over!

Easy and cost effective project!

Very nice!

I am the odd one out but I prefer the stock grill to this. At first I did not like the stock grill and was going to install the accessory one but now I am going to leave the stock grill on mine. It looks more manly.

I agree, I don't understand why people are complaining about the stock grill. I think It looks great.

Nice work, and looks nice.

I'm with arbriscoe and Jake09, though, in that I really like the stock grill and probably wouldn't consider changing it. Still, you present a nice alternative option for the factory grill haters out there.

I like how the "H" seems to be floating. Good job.

Looks good, but you might be surprised by the amount of airflow stopped by even an mesh that open.

Looks good! Some people have to make a negative comment on everything.

If that is the case I see it as a glass half full since this mod has increased airflow if the stock grill reduced it.

I don't think the factory grill is ugly. It has a distinct truck look and I like it. It goes along with the general lines.
However the installed new grill looks great also. Much lighter feel. Looks good Marcw!

I just did this grill mod today. Thanks a bunch for the write up. I didn't separate the chrome trim from the grill. I just left it and used a dremal cutoff wheel to cut out the un-needed part.

I also drilled some holes into the ribs on the back side to secure the mesh down with 10 zip ties and I also used black silicon to glue it down too.

Now I want to finish it off by putting some 1/4 round rubber molding trim on the front to hide the few burrs/nicks I got from the dremal. That should really put the finishing touch to it but darn if I can find that type of molding.

None the less it looks great, big improvement for my taste.

vertrkr, i'm looking at your avatar, did you really go 130+mph in your 09?? i thought pilots had speed governors that limited top speed to 109mph or something like that...

No, I just had some fun in photoshop with the avatar. I think the limit is 112, I believe they cap the speed to the speed rating of the oem tires.
