lift gate struts, battery and tires in a week - Click HERE for Original Thread

Everything comes in threes:
I guess the struts were going bad for a while, but one finally went. Dealer wanted $98/strut or something rediculous like that. I ordered them online from Majestic Honda for half the price. Two second install.
Then a day later, the battery won't hold a charge. So off to Interstate and purchase an interstate battery for $20 less than the factory pos. I don't think a battery should go bad in less than three years.
A week earlier, I had to replace the stock Goodyears. I went with the Michelin Cross Terrains from Costco. Expensive but read good reviews. Personally, I don't think dry handling isn't all that good. Too cushy and feel a bit unstable. But wet weather is good and I'm thinking the winter traction will be way better. The tires are quieter and ride much nicer overall. The wife likes them and that's what matters since it's her car.

thanks for that unbiased opinion.:4:

Add some more air.

Also as they wear in a bit the squirm will decrease.

I agree with N-Jay. Check your tire pressure. My CT's got better once the tires wore down a little. My guess is that the mold release agents had to wear off. JMHO

I'm not saying the tires are bad. They are a but squishy like snow tires. But really, I think they expose how badly the Pilot handles. These tires seem to expose how severely this truck understeers. It's frightening. In an emergency maneuver, you turn the wheel quickly and about a second later, the truck finally starts to turn. As a result, you've over committed by holding it there that extra second, then you have to over correct which leads to trouble. Yeh, hate to say it, but this truck really sucks at handling.

Is there a tire return policy at Costco?

I think you'd be happier with the Bridgestone Alenza that I have. Had to do a VERY quick back country drive this weekend on slick dampened roads. Their HR spec makes them very well suit for quick aggressive driving in comparison to the soggy GY.

Adding the braces as well makes a huge difference.

The improvement in handling between these two improvements makes going for lower profile tires/bigger wheels unnecessary

I agree on the "squishy" cross terrains. I have them at 36 pounds of air pressure, and would like them stiffer. I just don't want the center tread to wear early. Any tire pressure advice - can i go higher and keep even wear? Thanks.

I am of a completely different opinion regarding overall handling on the Pilot. I find it excellent compared with other vehicles of the same class/size/weight. That may be the important qualifier there...it will never handle like a car. As an elevated hunk of weight, I find it does an excellent job of handling.

Drive others of the same size and you'll see it...

But if there are bad tires on board, throw anything the vehicle itself can contribute out the window. Nothing takes the place of the contact patches on the ground.

My wife never like the 32 psi ride generated by the Pilot. Raised the tire pressure to 35 psi and she is very happy. I have the Michelin Cross Terrains on our 03 Pilot too. Does 3 psi make that much difference, I do not know but the wife is happy; if she is happy every one is happy!
