Hi all,
I'm looking for 4 new tires that are good in the snow and rain for my 06 FWD Pilot, from reading all the posts there seems to be alot of Pilots riding on many dirrerent brands, I live in Boston so we have a great deal of snow ect.. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Good Year TT?
Michelin LT?

I am sure many member will say: DO A SEARCH!
I am live in suburb Boston as well and due for change my tires this year. After a lot of research, I locked at Michelin LTX MS and going to change before winter comes (may be in early November). My current Bridgestone is already at 50k and still has enough tread left to last several month (5/32", not for the winter though). |

I heard Michelin are the ones to choose especially for snow, I'm stuck between the LTX and the CT's?
Any thoughts?

| Do a tire search and it will turn up a lot of threads. These will will answer almost any questions you may have. You can also use Tire Rack to compare tires as well. They test and rate almost all the tires you may be considering. |

| LTX and CT are both very good tires. Which one to choose is depend on which aspect you'd like to emphasize. I'd choose LTX for more snow performance and longer lasting while CT for better fuel economy. The sipe's depth on 235/70R16 CT is only half way (this is strange. Most other size CT are fully siped). So you will lost much snow traction once the tire is half worn. The LTX is fully siped to the base of each block. Hope this helps. |

I'd go with Charmin.....wait this thread is about tires? I've had the CTs on our MDX and they are not impressive in the snow. The Fortera TTs we have on the Pilot are far better. I haven't had the LTXs but I've heard they are better in the snow than the CTs......Link |

Just change from stock Bridgestone Dueler 684D to Michelin LTX M/S last weekend. I got 52k miles out of the Dueler with still about 5/32" tread left. The Dueler is not bad at all except winter traction. The LTX seems a bit quieter and performs slightly better in terms of cornering. The side wall is definitely stiffer as I feel the bumps and road imperfections now while the Dueler smoothed them out nicely. I will see how the LTX works in this winter as that's what I get it for (and ditched the dueler before the end of its tread).
I got the Michelin from BJ's and installed by the on site Monoro auto center. $671 for the set including 5% MA tax and after $60 Coupon for Michelin tires. |

You may want to look at Cooper tires, specifically the Cooper Discoverer CTS. Just like the Michelins it is constructed of a carbon black/silica blend that decreases rolling resistance while maintaining wet traction. I had the Cooper CS4s on my Murano and they handled very well in the rain and in Cleveland winters.
I believe only the Discoverer CTS uses the silica blend, the other Discoverer series tires may not. Additionally this tire was just a CR top rated tire along with those listed below. The list is from another thread in this forum.

| There is also the tirerack owner survey. Here are the light truck/SUV all season tire reviews: Link. My wife commutes 60 miles a day in all weather conditions and I can confirm that the Forteras offer excellent traction in central MA snow. |

About three weeks with this set of LTX M/S now. Just like to share some thoughts with fellow Piloters regarding to the tire.
UP side:
quiet, smooth and sure footed.
Down side:
stiff side wall (a bit bumpier compare to Dueler I had), Rolling resistance ( MPG droped 1), longer stopping distance (need to push the pedal harder in regular stop and need much more effort in a rush stop, now I understand why Consumer report give this tire hands down for the rating of dry braking).
Still need to be tested for snow performance in winter. |
