Found my first glitch? Interior lighting - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm wondering if I found my first glitch in my new '09 Pilot. Before I take it in I wanted to see if I am missing something.

When I have the interior lighting control (top center in the front) set to the middle position, which should automatically light when a door is open (then shut off at a variable time after based on the user preference in the keyless entry settings -- I have mine set to 15 seconds), the third row lighting never shuts off. It remains permamently on during the drive or after leaving the car, even if you manually click it. The first two rows go off when they should.

If I set the interior lighting position all the way forward to the "off" position, it goes off but then none of the lights come on when opening the door (as expected). My first thought was a rear door or tailgate might not be totally closed but that didn't help. I thought it might be a faulty sensor that thinks the tailgate was open but that doesn't make sense because, ironically, the third row light does come on when the tailgate is opened, even with the setting in the off position, which means it knows when the tailgate is open.

So in summary if the lighting is set to OFF, the first two rows don't turn on when the doors are open but the third row does turn on with the tailgate open. In the middle (when door open) position, the third light never turns off -- I gave it 10 minutes in a test and it wasn't going off. I have set it to off for the moment but that isn't an ideal permanent solution.

Thanks.

Something is amiss and I would take it to the dealer. Sounds like you have the third row lights turned on locally but you said you checked that. Maybe check again. Mine works as designed. Switch in middle position, on/off with door switch.

Thanks. I re-checked manually trying to turn it off and got the same result. Must be a wiring glitch or a faulty sensor somewhere. Bummer...

BTW, I spoke to the dealer on the phone about it tonight and they tried to convince me it is that way by design. I said why would they design something that either caused your battery to quickly fail or render the feature that turns the light on when the doors or open useless and he kind of tried to dance around it. In any event, I'll go in...

Here- check pg 174 in the manual (180 in the pdf file). Sounds like it should operate as we expect.

Thanks. I had checked out the manual. I was pretty sure this was a glitch but wanted to make sure there wasn't some trick I was missing...
What worries me a little is sometimes these electronics failures can be very troublesome to fix. I am not going to be happy if they have to start pulling open my car finishes and not getting clean fits again or if I have to keep going back while they shoot darts at the problem...

Hoping for the best, mentally preparing for less...

Sounds like the problem is isolated to that individual light switch. Perhaps it isn't grounded properly and hopefully, they'll change that one part without damaging anything. It doesn't hurt to take pics before you bring it in, so you have some evidence if they damage something during the repair process. I too am very meticulous when it comes to dealership repairs.
