Trailer hitch install problems...Help - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi everyone!

I just received a draw-tite class 3 hitch for my 05 pilot. Everything seemed to fit fine when I was lining everything up, but the passenger side bolts holes were semi rusted up, so it was tough to screw the bolts in. I got them in about 3 full turns then I could'nt budge them anymore (I was using a small 3/8 ratchet) so I decided to go to Hone depot and pick up an impact driver. So I started to use it on the bolts and they turned a few more times but then suddenly started to wiggle. The hole with the treads must have broken loose from the frame. Does anyone know what I can do to get to the top of them? Maybe I can drill from the top of the frame and down towards the existing holes and pick up some longer bolts with nuts to hold together? Any ideas would be great especially some advice on how to get to the top of the frame? anyone know where I can see any diagrams?

Please help!

1) There are LOTS of threads here about the exact same issue. Do a search.
2) Never (EVER) use a bolt to chase (clean) rusty or dirty threads, EVER! Always use a tap of the proper size.

I tried searching first but nothing came up that was relevant. Can you please give me some tips on what to do, they would be very appreciated.

Some fine using Google search better than the site search function.

I think you google "site=hondapilot.org" and then your search words.

Maybe other can help more.

use a colon instead of an equals sign in google.

An example search might be:

"trailer hitch tap nuts site:hondapilot.org"

Hello,

I had a similar hitch issue, but with the driver's side when removing the factory bolts on the towbar.

Which bolt is stuck (farthest forward, middle, or farthest rearward)?

I chased all the threads on the passenger side with an M12-1.25 tap.

There are a few ways to get to the nut, but only if it is the farthest forward. If it is not, then I would see if you can remove the rear bumper and then you will be able to get into the rear of the "box" of the frame member.

Please post back which nut it is. We can get this solved!
