| I picked this up in La Crosse on my way up to Minneapolis last week. It's a 2002 Gibson Historic 58 Plaintop reissue. |

| Brew, I have a silly question, "how is it historic if it is built in 2002"? or is Gibson Historic the full name of the company who makes it? :2: |
|
|
| Brew |
| No it's made by the Historic division of Gibson's custom shop. They try to copy the construction of their highly prized guitars from the 50's and early 60's. |

| Awesome dude! I used to have a 1976 Gibson Les Paul e issue. It was a Tabaco Sunburst with a double cutaway. I traded it later for my Guild Jumbo with maple back and sides. |

| My nephew likes playing his air guitar... ;) :p :4: |

| Good form too, notice the spread he's getting with his fret hand and the formation of his fingers picking the strings. Nice finger style action, he'll be a pro someday. |

That guitar is schweet. I still play the same Japanese Strat copy my parents bought me when I was 16. Now that I can afford a nice guitar, I don't play enough to justify it.:( |

beauty, brew!
Hey let's keep this guitar thread going! I'll post more later. Love guitar, classical and folk, with a little banjo and mandolin thrown in just for show! We made our living room into a music parlor so it would get more use. Someday I'll post some pics if I ever have a spare moment.:7: |

my kid has been playing viola for 5 years he's in middle school. Six months ago he decided he wanted a guitar first was acoustic Ibanez, loved it, then Ibanez SA candy apple red then a 100 watt Marshall.
He's saving for Boss special effects. He is loving it but has gone from 1st chair viola to 5th. Oh well he's sounding good.
He's got his eye on a Les Paul but Dad says work on your technique not my pocketbook.
ciao

I LOOOOVE Taylor guitars!!!!! You're so lucky to be getting a Taylor! If we weren't buying a new Pilot now, after having bought a new house last November with a monster mortgage, my next purchase would be a Taylor Koa 6-string. There's something about the sound of the Taylor high end guitars that's just magical. I LOOOOOOVE Taylor guitars!!!!!!!!! |

Got to be some good teachers in Philly or Bucks County area. There's also videos and DVDs that can be very helpful for beginners. We're in Hunterdon County so we get over to Bucks County every once in a while. It's amazing how much good folk music there is in Bucks County.
The banjo (or Merrywang) has such a wonderful cheerful and surprising sound, I just love it but don't play it that much to really be any good at it. I actually have a 6-string (which I can play like a guitar) and a 5-string that I play around with every once in a while.
You have to check out Strumelia Harmonia's hilarious banjo website. Here's her life story in pictures (A Girl's Story of Musical Corruption, WARNING: Tasteful vintage nudity posted only as a warning of the dangers that can befall merrywangsters!):

Here's her Northeastern Hightone Headknockers chapter of the
International Merrywang Society:

This is starting to drift way off the topic of Brew's really beautiful Gibson guitar so let's move on over to the pretty good banjo thread! |

Speaking of vintage guitars ... Here's a video of Silent Night being played on a very cool 19th century parlor guitar:
http://www.greatbigisland.com/video/jd-silentnight.htm
According to the story, because mice had eaten a hole in the church organ, Stille Nacht was first performed on such a guitar by Father Joseph Mohr at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, 1818, accompanied by his friend, Franz Gruber, who'd written the melody earlier that day for the poem written a couple of years before by Father Mohr. |
