| kemosabe started this thread discussing how to change avatars, signatures, etc. Maybe we need to either expand that thread or start another one, in a similar vein, to discuss how do I add pictures to a post, use the search button, quote another post, add a link to another thread, and any other thing that you have a question about in using this site. (Or maybe there's another place that addresses this and I didn't do my due diligence.) Unless someone suggests otherwise, let's use this thread to ask those types of questions, and share the knowledge.:p |

| There was a problem I recall having when I first tried adding an image to a post. I tend to preview a reply before I submit it. You can't preview an attached image because it doesn't get uploaded until you submit. If you preview a reply with an image, the path to the image is lost. You have to re-enter the path to the image before you submit it. |

Good idea jay!!! I also added a sticky to make it easier for new (and old) members to locate.

Hi All,
How do you get the "Originally posted by " text to come up right above the quote you include in your post?

Just use the same quote commands as the first quote just enter it in by hand. You can then copy and paste in what you wanted to post.

I've been finding disappearance of threads very annoying. My usual practice of visiting hondapilog.org is:
1. get to the home and check the number of new posts.
2. click the new posts link
3. click the yellow down arrow icon of the first thread to start reading from first unread article.
4. after finish reading all the articles come back to the top list.
5. enter the next thread by again clicking the yellow down arrow and repeat this process until there is no more unread threads
What annoys me is when I spend long enough time in one thread, for example composing a message for a post, the next time when I come back to the top list the thread list items disappear. I suppose the system recomputes the new posts based on the assumption that all threads are read sincce my last listing.
How can I get around this very annoying system behavior? |

1. Type faster ;)
2. Open the threads in a new window (SHIFT-click on the yellow down arrow) so the "new post" listing is maintained in the original window
The system is on a timer, as you've noticed, so if you spend "too much" time composing a reply (or even just leaving a thread sit on the screen) it assumes you've read everything on the new post listing. I don't recall the exact amount of time, but I do know that we've experimented with increasing it and decreasing it -- and the current setting seems the best compromise so you don't get stuff listed as new that really isn't.
I know on some other software packages the system tracks what you've *really* looked at, rather than just assuming based on a timer. I'd guess the next software upgrade/revision that vBulletin releases will have that sort of functionality. |

how do i keep from having my session expire ?
I logged in this morning and then went to make breakfast
when I came back I could still browse but had to re-login again
to post a reply. I'm not sure how long I was away from my pc.
This also happens when I open multiple windows of forums.
Is it ok to use the back button on my browser ?
Please advise. |

I don't even know that I understand what you're referring too, but click on the orange link control panel, then edit options, and see if "automatically log in ..." is set to yes. Mine is. |

Thanks. The instructions worked well as long as the picture is not too large. I am not sure how to change the byte size of a picture whihc is too large to post though.
Do you know of any way to change teh size of an existing picure (JPEG) so it can be posted within space limitations? |

www.irfanview.com
keep it 640x480 at 80% or so quality and it'll come in under the limit almost all the time. |

Thank you very much for the pic resize link. I am a computer idiot and even I could use the application easily.
Here is another test pic after shrinking a pic.

I tried earlier on a post with a file too big and now I'll test before posting another.....
Help I tried the attachment and was able to get the attachment on the reply but it shows up as a hyperlink attachment. How do I get the actual image as part of the reply?
Thanks in advance .... |

Thanks but your congrats may be a bit prematured. I just posted a reply and this time the image showed up as a hyperlink. Sorry to be a pain - but can you tell me what I am doing wrong  ?
Thanks in advance. |

| kemosabe |
Sure, I can try and help...
Keep in mind that in this thread, the VB [IMG] tag code is turned off (look at the bottom of the thread to see the Forum Rules to see what is turned ON/OFF), so anything that you surround with the [IMG] tag will show up as a hyperlink...
For example, if you do type something like this: [IMG]http://www.honda-pilot.org/forums/attachment.php?&postid=120660[/IMG]
it will show up in your post like this: http://www.honda-pilot.org/forums/attachment.php?&postid=120660 |
|
|
| kemosabe |
You will need to use HTML tags like this:
<img src="http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/attachment.php?&postid=120660">

in order to get your image to show up inline.... Otherwise, just attach your image to the post like you did with the test image that you made earlier...
Does this help any???
If this still doesn't answer your question, post your step-by-step procedure here and we'll see if we can figure out what's going on... :8: |

N_Jay, what I was after is a link that I can get to from my work PC but may not need it... Thanks anyway. |
