Better Tires. Are 245/70/16's OK with stk rims - Click HERE for Original Thread
BOB FILLARE
Can anyone offer some good advice here.

The OEM Bridgestones are awful. I want to put 245/70/16's on the same rims. The tires I want to go with are Michelin CT , they sell an "H" version at Tire Rack. Or Pirelli STR 245/70/16, H series

Is this rim able to handle these 10mm wider tires?? And will there be any problems. I asked Michelin, they said Honda does not reccommend it. I was not suprised.

Bigger rims not an option now

But the stk sizes 235/70/16 are too narrow, it need more beef, just look at comparable size vehicles.

Usually you go down in aspect ratio to 245/65/16, but this size does not exist, besides, I think the Pilot will handle it.

This is one of the few mistakes Honda made, I feel

Appreciate any comments, has anyone done this???

Tks Bob

It shouldn't be a problem. But, be careful with curbs and rocks because your sidewall will have more of an exposure.

I have had the Toyo Open countries in the 245's since last June without a problem. Gives the truck a better look and handles a lot better than the badyears.:2:

Isn't the outer diameter of that tire greater than the standard tire if it's the same aspect ratio (i.e., 70)? What about speedometer/odometer accuracy?

That is correct. The difference is that you will be traveling at 61.1mph when the speedo reads 60.

This info can be found at:

Input the old and new tire sizes that you want to compare, and it will list all of the dimensions in comparison, including speedometer differences. Quite a useful tool when thinking about new tires/rims.

Scancord, did you ever pick up new tires?
The Pirelli STR perhaps? If so, how do you like it?

I currently run Continental 255-70-16 Sport Lt/Suv with an 80,000

mile warrenty from WalMart. 20,000 miles plus and not a single

problem. Much better in the snow than the original Goodyears.

No pictures of my Pilot. I have close to 78,000 mile's and never a

problem of any kind. Although I did have a large aftermarket ATF

cooler and filter installed to protect the Transmission. The Pilot

pulls my Boat and my Tractor, and Travel Trailer with ease.
