My guy,Jeff Gordon(I'm in the minority being a JG fan) had the worst car on the track.Apparently he severely dinged it in qualifying, and elected to repair it and keep his position rather than switch to his backup, and start from the back.Big mistake!!They could never get it to handle. He was lucky to finish in the top 20.Oh,well,there is always next week.Charlie

They got the car fixed from hitting the wall, but then he blew the engine in the final practice on Saturday. Since they had to use another engine he had to start dead last. Pretty good run to finish 15th, from dead last, if you ask me. There are a few of us who'll admit to being JG fans. I even have my 24 sticker on the back window.:p I'm sure even Junior would agree that Gordon did pretty well, all things considered. :p

It seemed to me that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had the worst car ... OH, I'm sorry! You said "on the track" - Jr. spent more time in the garage than on the track :D

Jay,I must have missed that. The commentators mentioned something about not using the backup car,and I assumed he did it to hold qualifying.Did he hit the wall, then chose to fix to hold position, but then blew the motor-replaced it-so had to start at back?He wasn't allowed to switch to backup at that late date??They said his crew was trying to shove a spacer in the springs, but couldn't manage to get it in there.I was kinda disappointed because right at the end of the race he was 13 th,and Harvick ran out of fuel,I figured he would pick up a place, but the somehow managed to drop to 15th.They didn't show what happened(heck,he was 15 so I can't blame them),but I guess he drifted high, lost whatever draft he was getting, and 3 cars ducked under him.Gordon is usually very cagy at the end of races;he usually won't lose places on the last lap.
Titan's fan, you're right.JR's car absolutely stunk.Hard to believe that they could set it up so well at one track( Daytona),but be so far off at another track??!!
Well, lot of races left. Thanks,Charlie PS Anyone know which "channel" the truck race is usually on?I want to watch it this year to see how the "Tundra" is doing.Toyota built a pushrod motor just to run Nascar;I don't know whether they ever imported a pushrod motor car?

...snip

I read the story on his driver page at nascar.com. Here's a snippet:

"Gordon opened the weekend by posting the third-fastest time in practice. But during his Bud Pole qualifying run, Gordon got loose exiting Turn 4 and hit the wall. Hard.

The resulting damage forced the No. 24 crew to stay late Friday evening and arrive early Saturday. Diligently, they repaired the DuPont Chevrolet, only to see the engine explode in Saturday's first practice session. After changing motors, Gordon started dead last Sunday."

If you go to a backup car or change engines, you start at the back. Since the car was repaired and in race trim, I guess it was easier to drop another engine in it.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the # 8 Team are 'From zero to hero' at Atlanta. After a disappointing 35th finish at Las Vegas last weekend, they worked hard to have a victory in the Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Congrats to the # 8 Team! :7: :claphead: :5:
