Without a doubt, camping is the most anticipated summer event in the borg household. We're all chomping at the bit to head out into the great outdoors. Campsites began taking reservations at the beginning of March & we promptly booked sites to ensure our place under the sun.
From July 10-17 we wil be staying @ Cabana Beach in Osoyoos B.C., it will be a first for us but we've heard a lot of good things form other campers so we decided to give it a try.
On the way back from B.C., we will stop @ Sundance Lodges in Kanaskis, instead of tenting it we decided to book a tipi for a week. The boys are so excited about sleeping in a tipi........I'm more excited about the fact that I would'nt have to set up camp again so soon after Osoyoos.:D
So, what is everyone else's plans for the 04 camping season?
colorider, if you're in the Osoyoos area during your trip in July between 10-17, stop by the campsite.......maybe sample some Canadian brew.:7: |

Hmmm, we are a week or so off it appears. I will be at the Toad Rock Campground July 27-29.

We will be driving our Starlight Silver Pilot EX from here (Chicago area) to Yellowstone in late July, and meeting my sister and her family there, with their Starlight Silver Pilot EX-L! They are coming the other direction, from San Diego.
We'll all be camping at the Canyon Campground in the park for a few days, then moving on to a lodge in Grant Village (also in the park).
We're looking forward to lots of fun family miles in our twin Pilots! |

Bill Balmer, that sounds like fun, prime opportunity too for some awesome pics of the Pilots in a beautiful setting.:) |

I just picked up another gadget that's going to help ease loading & unloading camping gear from my Thule roof carrier.
The POWERBUILT truck step: |

It's fully adjustable & it folds flat when not in use.

I thought I would give this thread a bump.
We are going to be staying in Hickory Run, PA for Memorial Day weekend.
We have not booked any other camping trips yet, but we should get out a least a couple of weekends this year. Our other trip that is not booked but we are definitely going to do is a weekend taking the boat to an access on the Delaware River and then driving the boat down the river, through the Delaware-Chesapeake Canal and into the Chesapeake to Hart-Miller Island .
We are looking forward to this season of camping (and boating) also, it has been a miserable spring. |

Hey, between that time I will be at
The Siesta Motor Inn, just up the road from you.
Osoyoos is very nice. I go there once every 2 years. The lake is warm and it crosses into the U.S. Hopefully the wild fires wont be as bad this year. |

Very cool! We did the Yellowstone trip in the pilot last summer! There is so much to see there, you could spend a lifetime looking at it!
No big trips this summer we went to Italy this spring so that was our big trip this year. This year we have about 5 trips planned for extended weekends at Minnesota state parks. Next year we are in the preplanning stage for a 2 week Mount St Helens/Seattle trip.

Just got back from another great camping trip. Osoyoos lake was a lot of fun, the kids were in the water right after breakfast until around supper time. We would bring a picnic lunch & stay at the beach for the whole day. The one thing I didnt like was that the campsites were too small (20ft x 30ft) & every bit of that campground was occupied. We were packed in their like sardines, not the kind of campground accomodations I'm used too but we managed. If we ever do the Okanagan/Osoyoos trip again we would'nt be tenting it, we'd be staying at a place like the one XPhile mentioned.
Some pics taken during the trip.
The Pilot is loaded to the roof as usual, even with all the load it still handeled remarkably well on mountainous roadways with some twisties thrown in. |

| We broke up the long trip & spent one night in Kamloops before heading out for Osoyoos. This is the campsite, the pictures were taken before other campers arrived so it looks like there more space. |
|

| Pics inside the tent with the 2 air beds & the battery powered light & tent fan. We have two of these tent fans to circulate the air, it really came in handy since average daytime temps were in the hi 90's to 100. :1: |

Some of the activities we enjoyed while at the lake.
Inner tubing & boogie boards. |
|
|
| borg |
| The boys & I throwing the football around. |
|
|
| borg |
| We just went from one activity to the next....like frisbee. |
|
|
| borg |
| ....then the boys tried out snorkeling. |
|
|
| borg |
| We did manage to pull ourselves away from the lake to go for bike rides into town for some ice cream (while the kids were enjoying their ice cream I wlaked across the street to get some more beers :D). |

So that was our routine for the week, all in all it was a great experience except for the cramped campsite.
Next, we headed for Kananaskis.....we stayed one night in Kelowna enroute to our next destination to break up the lengthy drive.
In Kananaskis we stayed in Sundance Lodge campground, we had booked a Tipi to stay in for a couple of days so I didnt have to set up camp at all except for the screen tent. |
|
|
| borg |
This is the type of campsite I'm used to, lots of room, trees & wildlife including mosquitoes.:2:
Another aspect of camping we missed in Osoyoos was the campfire which was banned. In Kananaskis we can sit around the campfire all we want, & of course a campfire is not complete if you cant enjoy a glass of fine chardonay or read aloud a chapter of a Harry Potter book & of course roasting mashmallows.:29: |
|

| A resident squirrel insisted on waking us up @ 5AM by running around the perimeter of the tipi, we wouldnt have minded it but for the time in the morning.....way too early to wake up when your camping.:3: So after a couple of nights we were glad to be switching over to the trappers tent. We much preffered this over the tipi, for one no squirrel waking us up & it was roomier & easier to get in & out of. We were also able to set up the kitchen on the porch of the tent which was convenient when it came time to prepare dinner. |

Some of the activities we enjoyed in Kananaskis:
Bike ride on kananaskis trail & stopping to cool off our feet in the river & skip some rocks. |
|
|

| Riding our bikes to a nearby lake to do some fishing....there were no bites but the boys got to practice so they were happy anyway.:) |
|
|

It was another great family camping adventure which we all enjoyed, the kids had great fun & thats our priority.....to create good memories that lasts a lifetime.
Pilot parting shot. |

Borg!I thoroughly enjoyed all of your camping photos! What fun that looked like. The kids will never forget those things. I remember my camping childhood like it was just last year or something. So we too, will create these memories with our kids.
My little family is going on a trip (with the baby...yikes) and a couple friends. It should be fun. I'll have to take lots of photos and post them here. That's not till The end of August though. Your pics got me excited about our trip :)
How close are you to WA State? I'm such a geography idiot when it comes to other countries. Any good parks I should drive up to, across the border? |

Great pictures Borg. That is a wonderful way to go. Too bad about the close quarters at the campsites. Those will be great memories for the kids. Now that my kids are older they look back and we have some good laughs about those trips.
Thanks for posting the experience. |

Thanks John, & yeah its nice to be back but you're also right about the kids not wanting the trip to "end so soon". There were a couple of grumpy faces when we were packing up to leave for home but I reminded them that we had another trip planned for Jasper Park last week of Agust & they perked up a little.:)
My tent can sleep eight plus an entry/vestibule that is part of the fly that extends past the front of the tent. With the air mats and all our gear I'm glad we have the bigger tent, plus the vestibule is used like a "mudroom", so we dont track dirt into the sleeping quarters. |

Thank you, it's amazing what the kids remember....my boys are now 8 & 9 & they often talk about the fun trips we had when they were 2 & 3. At first I thought they remember by looking at the photos but they bring up events that would not have been captured with the camera & when they go into details & start laughing or teasing one another becuase of a happy or emabarassing moment it just brings a great big smile on my face.
You guys are tougher than us by taking the baby camping too, good for you guys......I wish we'd done that instead of waiting until the youngest was 2......the lost opportunities, they never come back:(
Osoyoos is but a half hour drive to the US border, it's a nice lake but its really busy. There seemed to be a few campgrounds but we unfortunately picked one of the busier ones. Oh well, live & learn. |

I hear you, it's the only way to experience the great outdoors. Although sometimes I wish I could upgrade to a trailer, maybe someday. You're comments just confirmed why I do these trips, it's for the kids.....it doesnt matter if its pouring rain & you're packing up the tent, they're in the truck playing cards having fun & staying dry.... :D |

Great pics, borg!!! Looks like you and your family had loads of fun. It's amazing how kids take to water so well and for so long. Even our girls love staying in water for hours on end.
Heading towards Banff over the weekend for some camping as well, but it'll only be for 3 nights. Just came back from a week long vacation from Fairmont, B.C. and wanted to squeeze in a decent camping trip before the end of my holidays. Hope it won't be too crowded, but who knows. |

We have stayed within Minnesota so far this summer, we were planning on going up to Kakabeka PP by Thunder Bay for Labor Day weekend but my daughters start school 2 days before LD weekend, so the wife was concerned about pulling them out on the 2nd day of school. We would have liked to venture farther but we went to Italy last March and that took a lot of my vacation and a lot of the vacation budget. :( Otherwise it has all been within 400 miles or so, I think we are up to 6 trips of more than 2 nights this year so far.
We do have the start of a plan to go to Mt St Helens next summer, which sounds like it would be fun. We hope to be able to fit Bannf in as well. :4:

That's awesome, that's the beauty of having a trailer....it makes it so much easier to just pick up & go, for couple of days trip it doenst require all that much planning.
i hope you're able to include Banff in your itenirary next summer, you'll love it. |
