Anyone else see that Pat Tillman, the Ex Arizona Cardinal NFL player that turned down huge contract to join the army rangers died in Afgan. yesterday. What an American Hero.

I just saw that this morning. That showed unbelievable character and patriotism to turn down the money he would have made to serve his country! In sports these days, there are so many bad role models for kids but Pat was one that could be looked up to without parents being worried about all the bad things that atheletes tend to do these days.

I agree, but so were all the other soldiers that died. Football player or not, they and their families deserve equal respect and condolences.

The thing is, he was a good player. He did a very admirable thing for his country. He is a hero. His stats are in the link.

Point well taken, and i by no means meant that the other soldiers were not. I think all of us need to realize the sacrifice that these soldiers and their families are making. All of our thoughts and prayers should go out to them.

Pat Tillman, a former NFL player who gave up his $3.6M contract to go fight for his country in Afghanistan following 9/11, was killed in action yesterday:

Some people know what's really important, and it's not transmission recalls.... :(

I just saw the news. I am a saddened by the passing of a great athlete and soldier, and most importantly, a great man. He has given the greatest gift to people that he never even met. In the light of all the recent negative press on young athletes, Tillman's image should live on as a reminder to everyone about all that is good in sports: discipline, humility, and... giving your all for the overall good of the team and Pat Tillman did that on the largest scale possible. We would all be lucky to have a life and death as dignified as the one of 27 year old Pat Tillman.

While his decisions and actions say a lot about Pat Tillman as a person, they also speak volumes about the many other self-centered millionaire athletes with their childish behavior and ridiculous lifestyles. If his sacrifices help just 1 of these egocentric buffoons to get a real perspective on life, the ripple effect will be tremendous...
