Another quick poll...
How many Pilot owners are pilots themselves? If so, what do you fly, and how often?
(I'm a Marine currently assigned to a ground tour, so ANY flying ANYONE is doing now is a lot more than what I'm getting! I'm hoping to get my ATP sometime next year, and dream of owning a Mooney someday...) |

| As the name implies, I'm just a glider pilot. And haven't been up yet this year, so we're in the same boat. |

I know we have several pilots who own Pilots on this board -- I can't remember their usernames off the top of my head, though. I think one worked for Boeing... :8:
I can make paper airplanes and fly those -- does that count??? :D |

I once played around with Flight Simulator until I could take off from College Park Airport and crash into the South Lawn of the White House. (Art imitating life, as they say.) :1: |

Dexter Wright also flies...
...I've communicated with him via e-mail and he once wrote: "I live up in the northern Calif mountain area, just out of Redding Calif. So use of the airplane for work or pleasure is necessary for quick transportation." |

I know Voo-Doo is a pilot--and a really cool guy. He and I go way back...
Kemo, your paper airplane time counts! The short duration of the flights makes it hard to keep track in your log-book, though! :4: |

How about piloting your own body? I used to skydive, does that count? :-)
Always liked this quote:
If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is
swimming. If you want to experience the element, get out of the vehicle. |

I think it counts, Devin. Personally, I don't have any desire to "jump out of a perfectly good airplane!" Besides, I'm generally scared of heights, so you got me there!
As an aside, Navy personnel that pilot LCAC's (Landing Craft, Air Cushion) log flight time. (Albeit in ground effect, but flying none-the-less!) If they can, why not you?!? :D |

Just a private pilot, with just enough hours in Cessna 152's and 172's to be dangerous. Love flying but it's pretty expensive for us ordinary folk.
Haven't gone up this year yet....:( Hope to find some time and money this summer, till then its only MS Flight Sim 2002 hours (the Cessna 172 is amazingly realistic, can't comment on the others). |

| I'm with you there--I haven't flown this year either. The prices at the local FBO are a bit steep, and I have been neglecting to find an FAA-cert'd doc. Besides, I'm still flying MS FS '98, so I'm way behind! |

I'm with you too, Pilot4jen&mook. I need to get my physical as well, came due in the fall but I was a bit too busy.
Seems we're both behind the latest MS Flight Sim 2004. I found the C-172 simulation very good in 2002. Went so far as to buy a yoke and rudder pedals. Other than the rough air, the wind/engine noise, the feeling of climbing/descending, trying to figure out the radio/intercom buttons, and listening to real traffic/tower talk, I found the sim to be very close to flying a real C-172. A whole lot cheaper too...
Many happy landings.... |

Is this close enough...???
Bill A. flies R/C planes...!!! :D |

| Funny, that's the only reason I bought the Pilot! I fly C-5s in the USAF and the navigators in our Squadron always try to make some silly correlation about (Honda) Pilots and the (Lincoln) Aviator being smaller/less powerful than the Lincoln Navigator... |

You must either be a senior Captain or a junior Major with the 436th Airlift Wing...??? |

| Good guess Kemo! I just pinned on Major this year. Funny though, we actually have 1Lts who are aircraft commanders now! Where you stationed here in the past? |

Thanks! Yup, used to wear the blue monkey suit, too... Got out back in '97 as a Captain. They sent me to SOS and gave me a regular commision thinking I was a 20-year man -- turned out MPC (or whatever they're called now) was wrong!!! :p
About 10 years ago when I was down seeing the Air Show at Andrews AFB, a C-5 was on static display and the aircraft commander was a first louie... :8:
Congrats on pinning on O-4!!! :7:
Which squadron within the 436th???
P.S. No, I've never done time at Dover AFB... :D |

I'm in the 9AS, hopefully PCSing this Fall to Warner Robins to fly the JStars. I was an intel guy for 6 yrs (C-5 is my 1st plane) before I went to UPT, so Uncle Sam has me 'til 2008. I'll be @ 15 yrs then, so unless they bring back the early retirement or the airlines start hiring again, I think I'm in for the long haul!
So where have you been stationed? Hey, I just remembered, our airshow is this weekend, if you're within driving distance... |

| Oh, I forgot - it's AFPC now...I'm sure someone got a medal for thinking of the new name! |

Did they issue an RFP or IFB to come up with the new FLA?:p |

joepat: I spent the first 4 years testing the Pratt & Whitney F100-series and General Electric F110-series engines in wind tunnels at Arnold AFB (as well as some of the rocket motors for the Minuteman II ICBM). This covered my butter bar and first louie days...
Then I spent my last 4 years with the 694th Intelliegence Wing (since you were an intel guy, you may have heard of us?) doing spook work at Fort Meade... When I saw that I could make tons more as a contractor, I ejected. Plus, the wife wasn't too keen on a PCS every few years. And since I was non-rated, I figured I could only climb so high on the food chain...
I've hit the air show at Andrews quite a few times -- they always alternate each year between the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels. We don't plan on going until my two boys are a little older...
Aim High!!! :) |

I've been to the Andrews air show quite a few times in the past, but didn't make it this year...
...seems like they alternate who the flight demo guys will be each year -- this year, it was the Blue Angels (Thunderbirds performed last year). |

| I didn't purchase the Pilot for the name but thought it was kind of "cool" anyway because I was in the Air Force 58'-80' and flew 20 of my 22 years. Most of my 4000+ hours was in my last aircraft the F-4. Two stints in Vietnam, 120 combat missions and reaching my goal as an F-4 Squadron Commander satisfied my flying aspirations. Haven't flown since 1980 since my wife and I prefer seeing our great country from ground level at our pace -- and the Pilot certainly enhances our vacation driving experiences. Now that we are both retired/retired, every day is a holiday and every holiday is the 4th of July. Hope all of you guys live long enough and are successful enough to enjoy what we thank God for every day. Cheers! |

| They just don't make 'em like they used to! What a monster--I'm always amazed at how huge the F-4 is. I never got to see the Blue Angels when they flew the Phantom--and that's one of my biggest regrets. 4000+ hours and command in 22 years is a feat in itself! Thanks for posting, sir. I bet you have some stories! |
