I did a search for 'bike' and found mostly threads on racks and carriers. On Fathers Day I became the proud owner of a dual squishy.

That's amazing you had time to ride your bike. Did you do that when you weren't making one of your 8000+ postis?

Not bad. My Bro-in-law has a Habanero Ti frame and is at 22 lbs. I like my dual squishy even though its 26.5 lbs.

Why two similar bikes though?

Wow, nice setup. And 21lbs on a 19" inch is awesome.

I have an '02 Giant Rainier (17") with the following upgrades:

Time ATAC pedals, WTB Laser V Steath saddle, Mavic XM321 Disc with XT hubs, Panaracer Fire XC Pro tires, Cateye Enduro 2

Not sure of the weight, but wishing I had something lighter. I would be happy with something around 25lbs or less.

I have the '01 Ranier. I had it weighed and Ithink its close to 30 lbs. Maybe that's with my tools, don't remember.

It's for sale, BTW. Anyone?

I need to get my weighed in...dying to know how much it weighs. With the heavy duty wheels that I put on it, it will definitely be in the 30lbs range.

The black one is my older beater bike which has a little smaller frame size for me so I use it for rough and technical terrains. The components on it are a little cheaper and the bike a little heavier. I use the yellow lighter and larger frame bike for smooth fast terrains.

The secret to it's lighter weight are Titanium parts, Ti axles, Ti fasteners, lightweight racing spokes and I selected the lightest components that I could get. My bike shop weighed it for me after they completed their tune-up and it matched my measurement at home.

Nice Ultimate. What size of frame is that ? How tall are you and @ weight? I noticed the extra spacers. Are you still trying to dial it in ? Not getting personal but as a rider you probably understand my curiosity.
Do you like the Rolf wheels ? How stiff are they?

Finally got a chance to weigh my 02 Giant Rainier (17") with the following mods:

Time ATAC pedals, WTB Laser V Steath saddle, Mavic XM321 Disc with XT hubs, Panaracer Fire XC Pro tires, Cateye Enduro 2

It weighs 28.6 lbs. I could probably easily shave off a pound by going to lighter wheels...XM321 are heavy duty.

That's what I heard. I definitely prefer the Avid mechanical disc over others. It's easier to maintain and adjust.

On my Titus, it came with v-brakes. I would like to change out to disc in the future. But for now, I am tapped out, so for now it will have to wait.

By the way, how do you like your NRS? I was looking at Trek Fuel, Giant NRS, and Specialized Stumpjumper FSR before finding too good of deal on the Titus to let it pass by.

I really started getting serious about road biking about three months ago. Last Saturday I road 44 miles in a little under 3 hours. My goal is to increase my pace and to complete a 100 race/ride. I have been riding an old Schwinn 21 speed hybrid. Today I ordered a Fuji Royale. See following link:

The Royale weighs around 20 pounds and should give me the speed I'm after with the comfort of a hybrid. I can't take the bending of a road bike due to hip and back problems from running about 25k over a 30 year span. Am really looking forward to hitting the road with my new wheels.

I love the NRS. Its a $2000 bike that I got for $1609 -10%, so I couldn't pass that up. Its light, there's no bob, and it soaks up almost every bump I come across in my cross country riding. Hate the brakes though. Hate.
Actually, when they work, they really make it easy to brake and hold on. With the hydraulics, I can brake with one finger, and hold on for dear life with the rest.

Sorry for the drift, but I was reading something the other day about sales have not been anywhere near what Honda had hoped for on the Rune.

And - why not get back into riding??????? It's (almost) never too late!! Remember, you only get old when you QUIT riding!!

:2:

Really???? all I've been hearing was that all units are sold even before it gets to the dealership. Hmmmm...... I may have to revisit the discussion with Mrs borg & maybe able to negotiate a new RUNE. But that's a huge maybe........in the meantime I'll keep riding this:

Yeah, NRS looked very good when I was looking to upgrade to full suspension. I looked at the 3 giants in bike industry, Giant, Specialized and Trek. For me, I was leaning towards the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp model as my local LBS was having it for $1499 and it had the best components at that price range versus others. My second choice was the NRS. Trek's FS seem to lag behind. I was just waiting to save some money, and then this offer with Titus. It's a 2003 leftover. A comparable 2004 model cost $3700 and I got it for $1500 + $40 shipping + $60 to true wheels, front and rear brake and derailleur adjustments (that's $1600 out the door). I have gotten so used to my AVID mechanical disc, I'm not sure about the V-brakes on it though. I will just get some riding and see if I need to upgrade to AVID at a later date. I heard too much bad things about hydraulics, so I will stay with AVID mechanical disc. For now, it weighs 26.7lbs and I will keep it that way.

I'm dying to take it out this weekend and see the difference between my Rainier.
sungchang
Since I got my Titus Racer-X about a week and half ago, I have put about 100miles on it...and so far :D :D :D :D :D

It improved my climbing by few minutes, and it's so sweet coming down the hills. On my HT, I needed to carefully chart out the terrain while coming down, but now I can just point where I want to go and it just takes the bumps and smoothes them out for me.
sungchang
Bump!

Anyone else with bikes...show us!

Sorry to respond so late... haven't seen this thread in a long time...

The frame size is 52cm. I'm 5'8" at 200 lbs. Spacers are there just for tuning... will eventually lop 'em off. LOVE the Rolf wheels... super SUPER stiff, a little heavier than some of the newer wheels, but for my weight, I wouldn't trade them in for the world.

Send me a PM if there's anything else you wanted to know regarding the Litespeed. Are you in the market for one?

Regards,
Mike

For those who ride mtn bikes, any advice on how to tackle single track with tree roots?

Just started riding beginner single track, but there is a section that has 3 sequential tree roots (about 4-6 inches tall). I'm not sure how I can go through this...

Here is a pic of my ride. With it's low profile (cuts down on wind drag) reaching the unbelievable speed of 3.6 mph was easy. I did notice that anything over 3.1 made my road hog a bit unstable, so I added on rear steering stabilizers. It did however cut my top speed down to 3.4 mph - but what a difference it made in the overall handling. With a stiff wind to my back I can still beat most RASCALS off the line!

SPEED-STYLE-STABILITY ...
my hog has it all :1:

... and I stumbled onto this thread so I thought I would revive it.

Started my MTB life back in 1995 with a dualie Trek Y3. Upgraded a year later to a Mountain Cycle San Andreas (another dualie) -- my first ride with hydraulic disc brakes. Have pics of them somehwere but can't find them.

The following are still in my stable:

Cannondale F900 replaced the San Andreas in 99 but didn't enjoy the downhills as much. Still have it and use it to tow the kids and for commuting.

Cannondale Jeckyll 1000 got me back on a dualie with lock-out to mimic a hardtail on climbs.
Josey92
Specialized Big Hit DH Pro did a few years of urban assault riding and summer ski resort trips with this one. Still ride it on occassion on the "local" (45 min drive) trails. It's a surprisingly good climber if you can get the your legs to push the 40+ pounds up the hill.
Josey92
2006 Santa Cruz Nomad This by far the best "all-mountain" ride I have ever ridden. It can do it all (XC, DH, freeride) and it has nearly the same front and rear travel as the Big Hit. It lives up to all the hype and was worth the nearly 6-month backorder.

It was such a beautiful 70-degree day today in the Northeast and I can't believe I couldn't get out for a ride.

As my technical skills are slowly improving and as I start to pile up more age, I decided to move from cross country (XC) bike to more of a trailbike. In August '06, I bought a Titus MotoLite frame with 07 Talas RLC, and built it up with components from Titus Racer-X. At the same time, I upgraded my 01 Klein Attitude as well. The components from Klein went to upgrade my wife's Trek 4100. Hehe, I was in a busy build stage during those few weeks. Some pics:
