Chrome Grill Accents - Click HERE for Original Thread
Ratso
My revised design for the grill aceents are tested and complete. So If I can get at least 10 members committed to buy, at $17.50, I will offer free shipping/handling until 7-15-2004

These will go on ebay today for a BUY IT NOW price of $19.99 with $5 applicable s/h.

Made from a flexible molding with a good chrome look finish. Installation is very easy (instructions included with shipping) and 3M backed. I have had these on for a week now. High heat, car washes, etc... still look as good as the day I installed them.

I send a set to drm1111 as a test. Please PM him or post for his feedback.

Here's a picture.
Ratso
since I know the next request will be for a close up shot.

Guys these really do look great. Kinda makes the dull grill stand out more. Just enough chrome but not to much if you know what I mean. I love em!! :1:
Sunday Rider
Ratso, you can count me in too. Thanks.
74PILOTMOM
That looks nice! I've always wished for more chrome in the grille. Count me in too.

Well, it's a rubberized material with a flexible chrome finish. Very shiney. Seems very durable.

It is applied to the surface of the crossbars and does not wrap around them.
kpd151
Count me in. Just PM me when they are ready and you are accepting payments. I will Paypal you the money.
kettlinton
put me down for a set. thanks:2: :4:

Yeah, I'm in too, Mr. Ratso. Hopefully, these can arrive before we take off on our vacation the 22nd, wink, wink, nudge, nudge :D

Just kidding. Just send them whenever you can. And thanks again for the group buy for us in here. I'll go dig up your PayPal info in the door handle accents thread and I'll send over the money right away.

Speaking of which, just wanted to confirm if you sent out the revised/tapered door accents? I was one of the people who bought your first version. Thanks!
kpd151
Ratso,
If my count is correct it looks like the group buy is on. Please post your payment info so we can get the money to you.
Ratso
The Pilot Grill Accent Buy is a go. I have a few sets ready and will start to ship next week. For those of you with Honda Vans.... check this out.

Ratso, can you do the same for me, since I'm up here too? I hate having to pay customs for something like this. It's not much, but it's still no pleasant.

Just paid, thank you Ratso. Please just post here, PM me, or email me when you send the package, so I know when to look for the truck. :) Thanks, Aimee

Getting ready to go to Myrtle Beach Saturday where its about 95. This will be a great test for the Grill Accents and the Door Accents. So far so good Ratso. They really set the Pilot off. Just enough to make a difference. I'll let everybody know how they held up when I get back. :1:
Ratso
Thanks Dave for the feedback. It's really hard to see how a new product will hold up with only a few weeks of testing in a limited climate. I have sat my Pilot in the heat of my parkign lot at work roasting for a full day. day after day, and the grill accents hold on tight and look really good. I've had the Pilot to over 100mph (ssshhhh) and no evidence of movement. I think they will do very well. The only thing I cannot predict is the winter weather effects.

Canadian buyers will not receive invoicing with their shipments.

I can't believe the Canadian postal police actually open your mail. Can't they just sniff it for explosives and leave you with a little privacy?

Are you kidding. They are looking for revenue. They say they open random packages. But I have had a few opened, and once they charged me $1.50 tax on a $6.00 US item plus $5.00 for handling. If a box is large they will open. My sister shipped me back my coat which I had left in Mississippi, and they tried to charge me the going rate. I had to fax them my proof that it was bought in Canada before they let me off. Maybe they have me flagged to check all stuff:8:

for some of you. I am waiting for shipping tubes. Staples has bumped my order from 48 hours to 4 days. They were supposed to be in today, but no dice.

Be patient the rest of you, even fleaBay buyers are waiting now (and they paid a premium).

You should all have yours by the end of the week.

Canadian buyers are not receiving paid invoices to avoid the Mail Police.
74PILOTMOM
Not a problem, I won't die without chrome grille accents for a few more days. Thanks for the update, ratso.:)
kettlinton
hey ratso. thanks for the update, just wondering if my order is in delay mode. the name is under mark linton. just want to make sure. thanks:4:

Ratso,

FYI, you can get free mailing tubes and shipping boxes from USPS if you ship priority mail. Just go to www.usps.com.

I know, but the free tubes are the wrong sizes. They're either too wide and too long or too short. Staples offers a perfect fit and their end caps fit tighter. But thanks for thinkin of me.

My dealer asked me to stop in with samples for his parts desk today. I told him to get in line. lol. I'll be in next Friday for the tranny recall fix. He can get some then.
kettlinton
i recieved the wrong accents today, i got the door accents and i ordered the grill accents that were 19.99. how can we fix this mix up
Ratso
My mistakes are your benefit. You know have a free set fo door handle accents , as a backup. I will hopefully be loading shipping tubes before lunch tomorrow. Your gril accents will be there ASAP. Sorry for the mistake.

As with any customer, my first priority is to keep you happy as a buyer. The delays with the gril accents are pi$$ing me off too. I have 20+ sets sitting on my desk at work waiting to be mailed.
kettlinton

I just sent you a paypal payment.

Ratso
thaks. Shipping tube are in and items are going out today. I have to cut 6 additional sets to fill all standing orders, including yours.
Ratso
Okay folks. Everyone is shipped. If I missed someone, please let me know. Except for our Hawaiian brethren, you all shoudl receive your grill accents by Monday or Tuesday.

PELASDE MAKE NOTE: The accents are round cut on one end and angle cut on another. The top and bottom bars are different lengths. The top bar is intentionally a little short. Stick the accetn bar end closest to the center emblem on first and stretch the accent bar to fit as close as you can to the outside edge.

These are intentionally a little short because if they were cut to an exact length and the user installs with a little stretch to keep them straight, they will end up a little too long.

Be patient and take just an extra minute to be sure they go on straight and enjoy.

Thanks for the business and as always, post, e-mail or PM if you have anyquestions or problems.

I had a Pilot owner at our condo complex ask about the door accents and grill accents. He loved them. Great job Ratso!! I'm still waiting for the chrome surround for the outside of the grill.!!! :1:

Me a tease 74PilotMom??? hehehehehe. Daughter stole our digital camera last month when she went to the beach and has'nt mailed it back to us. I'm gonna buy her one from Circuit City and have it shipped to her..... better yet why don't i buy myself a new one??? I knew I had a brain somewhere!!! :1:
74PILOTMOM
Ratso! I love these! Great little package, complete with the photo instructions. You really can't screw this up.
I'll post photos as soon as I can. I highly recommend this little add on. My Pilot's just been classed up a bit.

Thanks so much!
evaneri65
looks good. what is it made of ?
Ratso
coated with the chrome look poly finish. quite durable.

well worth the investment of a mere $17.50 for forum members:12:
74PILOTMOM
It's really neat stuff actually...Ratso, do you get this stuff in huge lengths? I think it would look nice along the side of the car too, that would be spendy, but it'd be extra bling bling ding protection :)
After applying that stuff, I thought...hmmm where else can I stick this?! It's fun, and very much worth the piddly $17.50.

I'm going to take some photos of my grille, from a distance, for the overall effect. I'll do this today and post it this afternoon.

For anyone skeptical or on the fence about it, I say go for it, what have you got to lose (but $17.50-If dealers were installing this, you can bet they'd charge at least $50) Plus, if for any reason you can always easily remove it. 3M is amazing stuff. I had to pull it up and re-stick when I went a little off course. It's still extremely secure. It's very tacky backing, try not to touch it.

I'm really interested to see how it holds up this winter...that should be THE ultimate test.

If dealers were installing it, they'd package it with the rear splash guards, call it an appearance package, and put an add-on sticker on the vehicle for $698.:p

The stock length of the molding I use is 18.6 ft per spool. The accents ends are cut to fit the edges of the Pilot's grill with a heavy duty square edge exact-o knife.

If you want a couple rolls, let me know.

Thank you for the rave review.

They are sweet are'nt they 74pilotmom? I think they make a big difference. Kinda sets our Pilots apart from all the others. I'm still waiting for Ratso to make the chrome grill surround for the outside diameter. By the way Ratso as 74pilotmom stated, I would be interested in some chrome molding for the inside of the side door moldings and in the inside of the bumper. Anything come to mind?? Let me know. You know I love being the one to try it first. Guess us boys never grow up!! lol :1:

Well, I actually met with a commercial label manufacturer today in regrds to something "really special" for the rar hatch handle adn YES the front grill surround. Over the next few weeks of design and cost analysis I will keep you all informed.

I got some samples of new material for the door handles today, like wwong showed earlier. I cut a new type of accent including rounded corners and a slightly narrower desing. The new material doesn't have nearly the same adhesive quality. I immediately got puckering on the front curve and rear of the handle. Althought the reflective qualities are dramatically improved, they don't stick very well. I want to design a new set for the pilot with 2 pieces for each handle, to cover the rear piece ncluding the door lock cutout.
drm1111
Ratso, I liked the ones you sent me. I think they look just fine. Held up in the hot beach weather too!!!
Ratso
I went back to the old stock material. The adhesive is much better.

By the way, I received a set of Pilot Pads from wwong. WOW, nice stuff. I was going to make a set from a different material, but I asure am glad I got his set.

For those who don't have this 13 piece set, get it. You cannot be disappointed.
drm1111
So do the new rounded corners look as good as the old door accents? :1:
Ratso
i rounded the corners with scissors. And yes, they look a little more refined and finished. The design is slightly shorter (1/8 inch) and slightly more narrow.
kettlinton
check this out:2: :4:
Ratso
to see that. Looks great. The white color of your Pilot really makes the chrome POP!
kpd151
Ratso,
I sent you a PM a couple of days ago regarding a problem with the chrome grill accents. Please reply as soon as possible.

Wilson, my boy, you do my heart good! Are you selling your version? I also wonder what your grille surround would look like in combination with Ratso's grill accents, since they are similar widths. I haven't decided, but I'm definitley interested in options. When it comes to chrome, only the most discriminating survive. I think Darwin first said that. :7:
john802
I think there's room for 2 competing version of the chrome grille accent. Some piloteer's wants a thinner kind like what Ratso's offering and other piloteer's wants a wider chrome accent like myself.
IMO, chrome is good on a silver pilot!!!

I like the thick accent alot. I was looking for the thicker trim to design the same thing, but wwong beat me to it. Good for him. I have no beef with a different desing, glad to have it here. But you have to want bling with the large version. Mine are intended to accent not showcase and different strikes for different folks.

I looked at wilson's pic closely and think that my crossbars accents won't look quite right with his grill surround. 1. He uses a similar 3/9 oval bar trim as my cross bar accent and the difference in surface level between the crossbars and grill surround is large enough that there will be a noticalbe gap between the two. BUT to be sure I will try it tomorrow. 2. I see his surround trim runs up into the bugflector. I have a clear bugflector on my Pilot and don't think the trim will take the corner smooth enough (and stick), nor will it be seemless the whole way around. The dark bugflector will, as seen, hide this. But again, I'm game to try it on mine for the good of the group.

wwong
http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/sh...olving+problems

Check out the end of this link for more pictures of my grille. I tried to bend the chrome molding to see if it would go all the way around the grille including the top. Just couldn't do it. There was too much stress on the molding and the adhesive was not strong enough to hold it in place. That's why there is no chrome strip on top of the grille. Fortunately, the deflector hides the top.

Since I could not get the chrome all the way around the grille, I probably will not make this available for members because very few will want it unless they have a deflector like mine to cover the top of the grille.

As for making the wider grille chrome accents available to members, I'm not sure yet. Still testing and looking for more feed back and interest.
Ratso
Wilson, I prepped the avery trim with alcohol and adhesive promoter, miter cut the top section and left the trim in the truck all morning to soften up and bend easier. I put it on a little quicker than I wanted becuase it looked like rain, but here are the results.
Ratso
but I was in a hurry.

The top miter came out very clean. Can hardly see the seam and no pulling from the corenrs yet (1 hour)
Ratso

looks good Ratso !
any combo deals yet ?
Ratso
let me watch this little s.o.b. ride a few days to be sure it's not going to pull at the corners first.
drm1111
Hey Ratso. Need a person to test it??? lol. You know i'm always available!!! Going back to Myrtle Beach the 14th of August so it would be a good test in the heat and sun. Let me know. :1:
drm1111
Hey Wilson. I am slobering looking at the wide chrome accents!!! I gotta have em. Also when you or Ratso get the trim ring patented I want it to. :1:
wwong
Ratso,

It would be a lot easier for members and ebayers if you made both the thin and wide grille accents along with the chrome running around the grille. So, please.... run with it. And nice job on the chrome running around the grille.
robrecht
I very much like Ratso's thin inserts With the surround piece added! If it stays on well, I definitely want to order it from my local socialist co-op, comrade. :7:
