... well, for one thing, most people would be surprised. :D
Based on the heated debate in this thread , it's apparent we have some strong opinions among Pilot owners. Now that the Democratic ticket has been solidified, and before both major national conventions, we can get an idea of where we stand as a community. Nothing scientific here, just some good clean throat-ripping fun.
Perhaps after the conventions as we get closer to the election (say, after Labor Day) we can ask a moderator to lock out the poll and start another one to see if things change much.
I thought about not including Nader but if you feel he shouldn't be in there, well, just don't vote for him (especially if you didn't know he even had a running mate). I also thought about putting in an undecided option, but I hate that because it just creates ambiguity in polls and [s]he's never been elected to office anyway. |

Here's my vote to close this poll.
I know that politics is close to many people's heart, including mine, but I don't think it appropriate here. What's that bartender rule; never talk about politics or religion?
Now, what's this I hear about Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, and even Yugo, being better than Honda?!!! :3: ;) :) |

h3xme, I personally have no problem with the poll, unless the board would decide to make politics off limits period. If posters wish to revisit/continue the same debate covered in the Fahrenreit 9-11 thread, I think they should post there.
It'll be kinda fun to see how the poll shapes up, since people can "vote" without fear of or time commitment afterward to dealing with flames, criticism, or explanation. |

Seems to me there were some districts reporting excessive votes in Chicago in 2000!
I am far more concerned with people voting based on Moores "facts" than I am of any "counting errors". |

I think that the important lesson to take away from this poll is that every election is an important one, and everyone of voting age needs to register and vote. I've voted in every election that I can remember since reaching voting age (except for maybe a poorly advertised primary), including one local election for County Supervisor that was decided by 5 votes.
If you haven't registered, make that effort over the next two weeks to do so. If you are registered, make plans to vote. And make the effort to see that your neighbors who might not otherwise have a way to get to the polling place have a way to do so. After all, you have all that passenger room in your Pilot.:p |

I'm sure you don't remember, as most newspapers buried the story deep inside but after the 2000 election many media outlets descended on Florida to do their own recounts. Their findings: in most every way the votes could be counted, Bush still won! |

In most every way that THOSE votes could be counted. Also buried in those stories was the election reform and money spent on technology to prevent a recurrence. We won't even get into the p$ssing contest over the alleged dis-enfranchised, Florida or otherwise. Remember, I voted for Bush in that election, so I have no results axe to grind. I didn't want Gore as much as the next guy, but I also want a defender of our Constitution, as President Bush swore to do, in the White House. I'm not so certain that he or his assembled "team" understand the ramifications of the oath. |

Well from what I've been reading those hi tech voting machines have problems too, like no paper trail! But once again don't overlook the fact that the supervisor of election in most of those contested counties were Democrats. South Florida is a Democratic bastion. Up here in North Florida, our problems were few. :D |

Hey, now that you mention it, there are ads on these pages. I guess I don't even notice ads on web pages anymore. I must have developed some kind of subconscious neuro-visual filtration technique and not even realized it. |

What happened to the "spirited" discussions? And c'mon - with over 7,500 members, we should be able to get a better sampling than this.

Unless you've been vacationing in Antarctica, you've already seen this, but you may not have seen it full screen, and a lot of the links floating around the net are lousy.

Also, get ready for a replay of the 2000 FL election on a national scale:

There has been criticism of electronic voting from the start, some of it valid, some not. I think, mostly because it's new, you can't visually and physically see and feel the ballots, and people fear what they don't understand. Somebody explain to me what makes mechanical machines or optical scanners immune to fraud, abuse, or human error.
I imagine lawyers from both sides are right now booking their hotel rooms in south FL for November. I can see legal challenges from whatever side that loses in election districts wherever electronic voting is used. |

I heard an interesting idea the other day on the radio. Use ATM machines for voting. According to the story if the accuracy of ATM machines as used for banking was applied to voting there would be one mistake in billions. Sounded like a good idea to me. |

OK, now lets wait for the ACLU to explode over the concept of giving each voter a PIN. (Personal IDENTIFICATION Number).
Of course the comparison is REALLY REALLY STUPID.
For example:
1) Most people use their ATM at least several time a month, and typically vote only once a year.
2) People who are not comfortable with ATMs just don't use them, no so with voting machines.
And I can think of lots of other reasons the comparison is invalid.
Of course that would not stop a news commentator for repeating the story with out giving any deeper thought!!! :3: |
